Game details:
Annihilation - Pitched battle - BA go first

Pregame assessment:
Last time I played my friend, I grossly underestimated his death star unit of the Mad Dok, 29 boys, and a nob. This time, he has two death star units, including Ghaz. If he gets to charge, my marines will evaporate. If I get the charge, I may stand a chance. I'm going to try something different and hold back. He will come to me.

Deployment:

I deploy first. I spread out a little hoping to make him adjust to me. I think I am clever, but the truth is, he has so many boys, he has to spread out a little.

BA T1:
The plan: Drop the libby dread deep to take out the battle wagon. Move the left side up slightly to reduce the mad dok squad. Have the raven and razorbacks take out the kans.
Actual: The libby dread in the drop pod lands deep in ork territory. It scatters 3 inches, leaving me a good shot at his battlewagon. The attack bikes move up a little to engage the lootas with bolters and heavy bolters. I don't know what I was thinking, but I did not move the assault marines wtih libby and priest on the left. This cost me a round of shooting later and the attack bikes were out of the priest FNP bubble. The stormraven adjusts a little to get more weapons in range. Shooting is not nearly as effective as I was hoping. The libby dread lances the battlewagon, destroyed. The attack bikes scratch the Mad dok squad (3 orks). The stormraven and razorbacks eliminate a kan.
Kill points - BA 1 Orks 0

Orks T1:
The mad dok and boys move towards the libby dread. The lootas lick their chops looking down the barrel of their dakka. Everyone else moves forward. The lootas kill 1 attack bike and leave a wound on another. The dok and boys assault the dread. He knows he can't touch the dread this round (power klaws out of reach), but I fail to kill a single boy.
Kill points - BA 1 Orks 0

BA T2:
The plan: Left side, deal with the lootas. Right side, deploy death co and dread to assault bikers. Stage rest of right side for counter charge.
Actual: The right side moves up. Thanks to my expert pro play skills, I manage to leave the attack bikes out of priest bubble range, AGAIN! It's hard work being this good... The raven moves up, deploys the chaplain, death co, and dread. The razorbacks adjust and deploy their squads. The 10 man squad on the right moves up slightly. The attack bikes and left assault squad (most out of range) waste four lootas. The razorbacks and raven kill another kan. The chaplain, death co, and the dread do what they do best and wipe out the bikers. Debatable play mistake. It could be argued I should have only deployed the dread to deal with the bikers. I could then have counter charged with the chappy and death co. Life goes on. The libby dread in ork territory manages to kill a couple orks and survive several power klaw attacks.
Kill points - BA 2 Orks 0

Orks T2:
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG! The kan and deff dread move against the death co dread. Ghaz and the boys move against death co. They were all wiped out. The dok finally managed to kill the libby dread.
Kill points - BA 2 Orks 4

BA T3:
The plan: Left side, finish off the lootas and stay out of assault range of the mad dok. Right side, razorbacks and raven finish off the kans and start on the deff dread. Assault squads are out of charge range (guessing), so set up for a counter charge. At some point I'm going to need to start working on Ghaz and the boys...
Actual: The right side adjusts to set up the counter charge. The raven slides a little further towards ork territory. The left assault squad, priest, and libby finish off the lootas. The attack bikes peel off a few more orks from the mad dok squad. The razorbacks finish off the last kan. The raven stunns the deff dread. The counter charge line peels off a few orks from Ghaz's squad.
Kill points - BA 4 Orks 4

Orks T4:
Ghaz and gang multi assault the right side. The dok and boys rage towards the drop pod. Ghaz and gang multi assault the raven, razorback, and one of my five man assault squads. In total, Ghaz explodes the razorback, my game MVP, and kills eight orks in the explosion. The dok destroyes the drop pod.
Kill points - BA 4 Orks 6

BA T5
Plan: Raven and razorback finish that deff dread. I badly need the KP. Survive another turn against Ghaz with as many KPs as possible.
Actual: Dog gone my sour rolling! That dread is shaken, stunned, weapon destroyed, and immobilized! I do manage to survive another round with Ghaz and his boys. I manage to put a second and third wound on him...
Kill points - BA 4 Orks 6

Ork T5
Dok and boys rage towards my lines. The angels finally take down Ghaz. Man! He is a beast!
Kill points - BA 5 Orks 6

We roll to see if there is another turn. He rolls a four and concedes. Before you judge, it's really my fault. I thought the KP total was tied. He expected me to charge in to the remnants of the Ghaz's boys with my full assault squad, libby, and priest and wipe them out. I also had the raven and razorback to finish the deff dread. In the context of a tie game, he viewed that as a decisive advantage. So, I'll take the win, but it is soured by the early finish. Normally I wouldn't care, but I provided bad information on the score and would hate to think that was the deciding factor.

Post game analysis:
As usual, I made a bunch of game play mistakes. Meh. I had fun and it was a close game to the very end. I've read a lot of posts discussing cybork body as being a total waste of points. I have not had the same experience. The ork cybork body frustrates me to no end. The only assault I won was against the bikers. I think this was in large part due to the fact he got a save against everything I did. I did not have the same advantage. 5+ doesn't sound like much, but it is still 33%! Ghaz. What can be said about that guy that hasn't already been said... Anyway, thanks for reading!

Dear Games Workshop,

Paper is totally over powered! I can't believe how badly you guys screwed up. Why can't you make armies balanced, like Scissors? I quit!

Nice BR, but I want to comment on the lack of terrain on your board. There really should be more - about 25% of the board should be covered in terrain of one kind or another.

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.
