I'm from Tallahassee, and have travelled to Jacksonville for quite a few RTT's over the past few years and have played in the above named store. I saw, earlier, a post (locked now) bashing the store. To make sure this stays on topics, I guess, for "discussion" purposes, I have to ask a question: What is the remedy for us, as the gaming community, when on one of our forums, we see something that we disagree with, then the forum gets locked before we can say something contrary?

Alright, with relevency established, I really just want to say, I've gamed at suncoast several times, am not in any way part of the local gaming group there. I've NEVER had a bad experience there. Never. The gamers are nice, believe strongly in fluff, and every rules dispute has been handled amicably. I did, sadly, read some of the Karak posts...and yes, it's not representative of a great discussion. All involved, ALL INVOLVED took shots at each other, personal and nasty. But wow, such hate for a store by so many based on one post by a gamer obviously irritated at the store? Such trust for this gamer when so much is written so often from and about him? How biasied, and how wrong.

Of note, and again, perhaps establishing relevency for this thread, I think Dakka should be a bit careful about allowing someone to place negative things in writing about a store (Damaging reputation) then locking the thread prohibiting any response by the store. Maybe when such a terrible thread is locked, it should perhaps be stricken, removed, etc.?

I dont' post a lot, but I do read a lot here. This forum is the absolute best for 40k fans in the world, IMO. It has some of the best gamers, thinkings, painters, blah blah, of any site, and the information exchanged here is top notch. That said, shame on Dakka on this one.

I totally agree.

The OP in the thread you're mentioning also made a big deal out of the fact that he had a "senior moderator's" approval to flame the bejeezus out of a bunch of non members.

That whole episode is quite amazing. From Dash to the store to the aweful postings on that board no-one looks remotely good. The hate on the board is ridiculous and a large amount of people definitely do not show themselves in a good light. I don't even know why the store is associating itself with them - that has got to be the worst publicity going. The whole situation is just ick.

The trouble is you have two types of gamers who refuse to bend the slightest to each others way of thinking. Run a tournement called BMF (No whining or crying) and then proceed to whine and cry when some one turns up with a seal clubbing list is so epically illogical I cannot even start to draft up a clear sentence to say why it is so illogical. Then, you have Dash (going to use his name as he has posted about it) who decides that he is going to take in on himself to immediately "improve" the local scene and lift their 40k standards and proceeds to offer advice, mostly likely unwanted, after said seal clubbing. Apart from being unbelievable arrogent and not his place to do so he then has no comprehension why people find him arrogent - which I just fail to understand why he cannot see that. Throw in a few tournie dramas, a poorly moderation forum and add in a couple of inflated e-peen stroking and we have that delightful mess in there.

Dash comes to Dakka to defend himself if your charitable or to just prove his superiority to the inhabitants of that board where he can get a friendly ear if you are not charitable. Then the thread gets locked before those to whom it is being directed don't get to answer. Having seen the aweful and downright abusive posting on the other board I am glad it got shut down actually. Personally I think Dash's thread should have been deleted - it served no purpose other than him trying to explain to the world why this rinky dink little town wasn't ready for true competitive 40k.

don't think this thread will be alive long ....

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

While I certainly don't think the user in mention should have made the thread, I believe that the store isn't exactly top-notch, looking at their boards was a little too much, not alot of intelligent posting there, not insulting the people, but what they put up there doesn't reflect them in any healthy way.

They're fluffy players, no problem with that, but you don't make a baddest mo' fo' tournament, lose, then complain about a list being too cheesy.

TO cheating isn't fun for anyone, i've seen it once, not much you can do, especially when you have the social skills of a dead cat.

See, that's part of the problem. The store's forum was NOT the forum that everyone got rude in. But, you see, it's already being linked "to the store."

Fullheadofhair, that was awesome, you made me laugh out loud!

However, the forum that was linked obviously had players in the area who played against Dash and who apparently had problems with either him or his list. While the board may not be directly linked to "Suncoast Comics", the people that post there are obviously the playgroup that goes there, else, why would the have beef with Dash and/or his list?

I'm not trying to defend Dash. I can understand that he's having a rough time "adjusting" to his new area and the people there are maybe less than amicable to him, but he also seemed to bring some of it on himself. No one likes to be told that they aren't good at what they are doing/playing and while I have no doubt that he had the best of intentions, he may have come across as arrogant or pushy.

We had problems kinda like that in my area with Magic: the Gathering. Some players were wanting to be super-competitive, others were wanting to play fluffy-fun decks (even at tournaments). There was a clash, neither side wanted to budge. The hardcore players would stomp the fluffy players in the tournaments, but they woldn't get any good practice in for the big tourneys. When the hardcore scene tried to improve the players, the fluffy players left (also, the shop there didn't help any of the problems, but that's a different story for a different time), and all of a sudden there wasn't enough people for a tourney anymore.

In the end though, Dash has every right to write about his personal views/experiences at Suncoast Comics and if what Dash says is untrue then they can do exactly what you did and start a new thread and tell their side of the story. Obviously, the don't care too much because this is the first time that this has popped up since then, and as others have said, I can only see this ending badly.

IMO the report as written should have been posted on a personal blog rather than DakkaDakka.

Well the store owner AND 2 (could be wrong on this, I know 1 does for sure) of the posters on the flame thread have accounts on here. If they really wanted to defend themselves they are more then capable of doing so in the same manner you are doing for them to an extent. But they are most likely taking the smartest course of action: staying out of the drama. All that BS made everyone look bad, even Dash, who I have a bit if respect for. Running a BMF then crying about a WAAC list being brought to it is stupid and childish. If they were rec players (I fall into this category) they they shouldn't have had that kind of tournament in the first place. However Dash shouldn't have sat there and told them what they were doing wrong. He gives great advice, even when people don't want it, which was the case here. Doing that alienated him, and further attempts to help the store of game with others were tainted by his TFG status. The flame war was inevitable, but that's what Facebook is for, it shouldn't have been brought onto Dakka.

This thread is closed. Enough counter commentary to DOP's has been made so we're moving on.

To the original thread. Mea culpa. I thought it was going to be a batrep about some games at a tournament, not rantus gigantus. But again, my bad.

Lets move on. Further threads about the tourney will be closed.
