Noob question, bear with me.

When testing for a cold ones stupidity, you would roll against the riders ld right? it seems like the most logical course of action, but i havent read anything (yet) that actually states that.

Yes, unless the general is within 12 inches then you can use his.

Nowadays you roll on the highest LD available, so its rider, or general if within range and you get the BSB re-roll to boot

IT'S under the rules for cavalry mounts - you use the riders value.

If you have a Slann BSB nearby you get Ld9 with a reroll

And I STILL failed many, many times...sigh! Still, now cold one cav are essentially useless in 8th i dont have to worry

Really?

A failed Ld 9 cold blooded w/ rerollable is like, 1/400

I think his "useless" comment refers to the combination of :

not going first on the charge anymore
being unable to clear the "kill zone" and avoid return attacks
being unlikely to have the ranks to cancel Steadfast and thus reliably break an infantry block
being unable to cancel rank bonuses in the rear or flank without an unfeasibly large unit of cold one cav

and not suffering stupidity too often.

I guess we should amend the saying to the "poor bloody cavalry" now.

Yep, the odds are horrifically against me failing as often as I did, I STILL managed it.

Yep, I2 just doesn't cut it on 35 point models with low WS for "elite" troops (seriously the old ones were so inept that their bred-for-combat-troops are WS3? WS4 if you ride on a cold one? really? ) and only a 2+ save.

Cavalry are definitely the poor men of 8th ed...

Even if I'm losing a game it's always been fun when I don't fail a single leadership test I had to make in the game (especially against VC players that outnumbered me). An I think it will only get better now

It is deppressing though that my raptor cavalry will be sitting on a shelf due to how useless they are now
