Hi all, I've been thinking about tanks lately, the Baneblade in particular, and I know that there are some Baneblade savvy folks out there that can help clear up some fog for me.

There are a few variations I know of for building a Baneblade: the old White Dwarf issue 132 plans (which I actually built years ago) and a set of plans floating around online for a larger version (I think someone else on Dakka built it a few years ago).

As far as official releases I know of the old Forgeworld version (which I understand is not easy to find as it has been discontinued) and the fairly new GW version.

My question for you all is: what is the most relevant Baneblade (that is to say - the most logical game-playing up-to-date rule-based Baneblade)?
I know the old White Dwarf version, while very nifty, is actually very much different than the other versions, like a 'stunted-growth' version. I was considering building one for kicks, as they are very angular and rigid (a break from the organic stuff I've worked on for a while) but I wanted to get a feel for what version is the most acceptable and popular.

Thank you in advance for your consideration on what may be a somewhat strange question.

Thanks for the info - I should point out that I'm completely into scratchbuilding it, in fact that would be preferable, so the sky's the limit.

Silly question: anyone who has the GW kit, how long is the model, from front to back? I can't seem to get a fix on the size of the thing from online pics.

Wow! You are all being great: This information is of paramount interest to me, I'm fascinated by the variations - thank you all for being specific as to the details.

I have interest in building based on this guy's plans:

(perhaps you have seen these plans, perhaps the creator is even a Dakka' member)

They seem to closely resemble the old FW version, but of course they are radically different from the WD#132 plans, so for me it's a toss up between the old-style WD plans (which would be a smaller tank) or the newer plans available from the link above (a larger tank and most likely more in proportion with the commonly available kits).
