Columbus, Oh

I would like to get an idea from you fine Dakka-ites about something regarding RTTs.

When you attend a Formal Rogue Trader Tournament, with prizes in the $150-300 range for the top 4 players.. what KIND of Missions do you want to play?

I have seen Custom Scenarios, Thematically Linked Scenarios, and Straight From The Book.

I use "Custom Scenarios" to denote singular one-off missions, like the kind that Mikhaila ran at the SVDM, or the Silver Sorcerer missions where deployment and Victory Conditions are non-standard.

"Thematically Linked Scenarios" would be, in my mind, something like -
Misison 1 Annihilation - but during a Heavy Snowstorm, so that there is visibility issues ala Night Fight the whole battle
Mission 2 Seize Ground - but now that it has snowed, all clear terrain is Difficult Ground and all water areas are Dangerous with ice...
Mission 3 etc - Another weather effect due to heavy winds/slush

Nothing that gives an advantage to Mission 2 coming out of Mission 1 winners.. no "rewards" per se.

"Straight from the Book" is just that. Basic Missions paired with Basic Deployment. No "Story".

With those in mind.. (on a personal level OR as your opinion, if you don't make it to tournaments) .. what would you like to see for a RTT you might attend?

Also note, you WOULD get a chance to know the actual missions at least a month in advance.. nothing sprung on you the day of the event.

Please, in addition to voting in the poll.. a bit of discussion as to WHY you feel the way you voted would help as well.

And.. if I forgot some type of mission, let me know and I will try to adapt the poll accordingly.

The only time I have seen 'linked' missions work is in a campaign or team tourney environment.

I have seen single-day campaigns where there were 'teams' of players (Imperium vs xenos usually) and every table was a campaign battleground.

Winner Talks, loser walks. So if you Won, you basically defended your physical territory and the next mission is played right there. And you get a small bonus for defending your territory.

It is a lot of fun and a great way to run a single day campaign, but of course isn't really a competitive event, more of a narrative event.

I think the missions and tables need to be played in a soulless story-less vacuum to be tourney worthy.
