You can take Grey Knights as an allied matrix. You're limited to what you can take though, although with the rumours of a new Inquis Codex coming out the allies system may be disappearing.

In my very limited experience, I would be ok with allies being removed from the game. Each army is unique and the prospect of playing against a blended army takes away from the game IMHO.

But would blended armies not make each individual army unique, and therefore increase the chances you're going to see a unique army each time you play? Wouldn't blended armies add variety, rather than take it away?

GK allies in a SM force are fine (although you do get other units in SM armies that can do more for fewer points) - but you must use the BOOK daemonhunter codex as the pdf online version does not include how they can be used.

You'll only have until around January to do this, though, as that is when the new GK codex is rumoured for release.

@SaintHazard - I can definately see how it does add variety to the game, but I just think it also takes something away.

"I play Ultramarines, what do you play?"

...who would actually say that?

"I play Ultramarines, what do you play?"

"I play Traitor Guard, but they've hired Ork Blood Axe mercenaries, and Kaptin Badrukk came along for the ride, figuring there'd be profits to be had."

Fluffy, and much richer than:

"I play Ultramarines, what do you play?"

"I play Guard."

LOL trust me, I am a fluff guy too. But there are quite a few that may not be and create blended armies simply because they feel it is more competitive.
