I have a landraider and am trying to work out what kind of close combat unit I want to come charging out of it. I am looking at points price and combat effectives. For 200 points I can get a 5 man terminator assault squad ( 20 attacks on the charge) or a 8 man veteran assault squad ( 32 attacks on the charge).

I want to ask people with more experience about 2+ save vs 8 wounds, weapons loadout etc. Which unit would you take and why?

Cheers Vim

That's actually tough. The wounds are your friends, so I'd take veterans.

I sincerely wish terminators were 5 5 5 5 2 5 2 9 2+. It would give me a reason to use them more.

It would also add ten or more points to their cost per model.

If you're using C:SM, I'd say go with TH/SS terminators, they rock and are pretty damn cheap to boot (points-wise).

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Terminators every time. If VGV came with jump packs, it'd be another story, but as it is they're basically an extra attack for seven points per model - not exactly what I'd call efficient. Also, most of the good close combat weapons in the vet squads you get with assault terminators on spam anyway.

There's just an acre of you fellas, isn't there?

Being able to have 2+ saves is really awesome, or being able to load them out with TH/SS fir the 3+ invuln as well makes for some durability in combat with most things youd want to be assaulting.

From a Dark Angel View, I am going to stick with Terminator simple due to the inv sav alone, Vet just don't seem to get the job done as well.

TH/SS terminators all the way.

Echoing the TH/SS love here. They're rock hard and can deal with pretty much everything in the game give or take a few extremes.

Yep, termies all the way. The durability alone makes them better than 8 wounds. Each one has some type of no-save weapons, and can be a 2+/3+. No contest.

The only question left is what flavor of assault termies you want.

You wants hordes served on a biscuit? Get the claws.

You want Monstrous Creature soup? Get the hammers.

In terms of loadout? I run them with 2 TH/SS and 3 claws.

With lysander filling the last slot in the squad, that is three 3 up invuls and lots of mid-high initiative power weapons on the charge.

Pounds anything flat.

Funny, I run the same loadout, the TH/SS are mostly there to soak up shots like plasma cannons, the claws kill some of the enemy before they strike back.

With my libby giving them preferred enemy and the S. Priest making the claws s5, they ate Vulkan and his group of TH/SS termies before they struck back.

What works is what works.

Playing vanilla marines myself, I usually do not get F. Charge, unless I want to run khan. (I don't.)

So, I will take the extra invul and let lysander do his thing. heheh..
