All of the squads within the Platoon entry are only available as a platoon. You can't select them separately.

As Insaniak said. In the current codex, the only way to include a Heavy Weapon squad is as part of a platoon.

Unless you're playing apoc, in which case there's a formation. (Heavy Weapons Company)

Or if you're using the DKoK list from the ForgeWorld website - you can get heavy weapon platoons as Heavy Support choices.

But guard + infantry as heavy support = death...KORPSOFKRIEG!

You can, however, take a veteran squad and turn two of the Veterans into a HWT.

You can also turn veterans in a CCS into HWTs.

But these are not Heavy Weapon Squads, merely HWTs in veteran squads and CCSs.

So, no. You cannot take an actually Heavy Weapon Squad outside of an infantry platoon, unless you use one of the methods stated in a previous post.
