So I finally decided that this would be my next army, even though I already have a WoC army, this will be a seperate army in most cases.

While I realize this army is hard to play competitively (hell alot of tournies I go to dont allow special characters anyways!), Id like to make this an army that doesnt get completely crushed...
However, first and for most, I want it to maintain its theme!

Kholek- 605

Throgg- 175
Exalted- BSB, MoK, Jugger

6 Chaos Trolls- 270
6 Chaos Trolls- 270
6 Chaos Trolls- 270

5 Dragon Ogres- Champion, Great Weapons- 405
6 Dragon Ogres- Champion, Great Weapons- 482

Shaggoth- Great Weapon- 285
Shaggoth- Great Weapon- 285

So, I know the army definitely needs tweaking. Infact I just realized that since the Dragon Ogres are only 40mm, the unit of 5 I had planned to put the BSB into, is going to end up on the side taking out ranks (Though to be honest I dont like having the exalted in theme wise, but its almost required). Its more or less going to be an army I play for fun and just to have a good time building, though I still want your thoughts and tweaks on how to make it more competitive.

For those curious... the entire army will be a conversion most likely. Kholek/Throgg (though I might end up buying those from miss painting group) are odvious, the Trolls will be converted of the new River Trolls, the Dragon Ogres will be based off the awsome Cold One/Black Orc conversions Im sure your all familiar with! And I even plan to do a bit of converting with the Shaggoths since I dont want them to look the same. Ill be sure to start a blog on this once I start making the army.

Im guessing Throgg makes trolls core? or you'll need 25% Chaos Warhounds! Which would be funny :p

You could use like a Beastman on the juggernaut. But the juggernaut doesn't fit either :(
If you can put Exhalted on manticores that would be cool. but less practical.
Everything has the will of chaos right? so if you drop the bsb your only missing out on re-rolling break tests. Which you shouldnt really be losing combat

Give a troll a Top-hat and a monocle and he can be a Wizard! (on a horse to fit the base size). Or just a simple wizard hat would do.

Sounds completely fricken Awesome though.
Kholek is an entire army on his own!

Buttler, this is awesome! We can do an east coast / west coast rivalry with our WoC beastie lists . I'm stoked that someone else is doing a similar one, since that will mean ideas for [strike]stealing[/strike] inspiriation . I've already picked up 2 boxes of trolls and the black orcs, will be getting the cold one bodies this weekend and probably another box of trolls .

As to the list, I've been thinking a lot about dragon ogres. 4 dragon ogres at 4-wide with AHW are putting out 16 attacks + stomp, so 20 attacks at str 5. 6 dragon ogres at 3x2 with AHW can only put out 18 attacks (12 from front rank, max 3 each from back, so 6, = 18) + stomp, so 21 attacks. It's a lot more cost for virtually NO increased performance if you're going with AHW!

With GWs, it makes more sense, but I'm thinking the AHW dragon ogres will end up being better. Need to playtest and see, but that extra attack will come in very handy, and they're still strength 5- nothing to sneeze at. You've got BIG stuff (shaggoths, kholek) to go after anything that doesn't respond to str 5, after all .

By changing them to AHW, you save 44 points, plus 40 from the two champion upgrades = 84. More than enough to make them 12 strong and 3 units of 4!

Another option would be to use those points, or even drop a drogre or two, to get more trolls. I'm thinking about running one or two units at 8-strong. Will make them more survivable and be able to hit a bit harder once they make it to combat- and they're a lot cheaper investment points-wise, too!

Do the jugger and dragon ogres fall into the same "unit type"? They need to be for the exalted to get a "look out, sir!" (base size doesn't matter). I've thought about this and so far decided against it, another concern is magic, and the only thing really fitting in a monster list is a DP, which is a huge walking target nowadays! So right now I'm going bare-bones, but will be open to revision if I can't win a single game later .

Nice list! One more thought is if you drop 3 dragon ogres and the champion upgrades (so going with 2 units of 4), you'll be down to 3000, if you were thinking about trying to hit that number instead of 3250 at some point.

@Seon, actually the trolls lost will of chaos through FAQ. And it only gave rerolls to panic checks anyways.

@RiTides, Where is the rule on different unit types in units in the case of look out sir? I looked for a good hour through the book and all I found was that the unit had to have 5 or models, which it needs to have anyways, giving one of the reasons for me running 6man units. A page number would be great if you could provide one!

The other reason I was lookin at units or 6 rather than 4, was for that rank... Though Im now realizing i probably wont have it after first round of combat anyways!

As for the AHW... I thought for a while between that or GWs but I figured since I was only running them with 3 in front, that the 3 extra attacks wont make a huge difference, and of coarse Id just love to be wounding t4 stuff on 2s as well! Not to mention already having a bad initiative.

I never thought about using a DP though I did notice the wizard problem... Looking at it though, theres no way I could fit in a DP along with Kholek (and quite honestly I dont think I could take him out!), its just too many points.

Ill definitely take AHW into consideration, depending on how I end up running the Dragon Ogres, rank wise.

Thanks for the advice!

Ack, I'm replying to this over a week late, but:

I'm going to consider great weapons, too! I've got the points for it at 1000, so I'll give it a try and see how it goes

Not sure of the page number, I'll try to check that and post back tonight. I believe, if you are of the same unit type, you get a 2+ LOS for being in a unit, 4+ for being not in but within 3", and none if you're not of the same unit type. Will return with some kind of reference...

Trolls lost will of chaos because stupidity makes you immune to psychology.

The rest of the army has Will of Chaos and causes fear or terror.

All a BSB will give you is drogres that re-roll fear tests from terror-causing units and re-rolls on stupidity tests. Throgg grants re-rolls for break tests by himself.

I'd say drop the BSB.

Ahah! Very true spellbound, I had never thought about that. I actually revamped the list a bit ago in which I took out the bsb for theme reasons... however Im glad to know it wasnt all for nothing!

I will make sure to post that list here tomorrow.

It'll be frustrating when you fail those stupidity tests, or the odd time where you become WS1 against a dragon, but for the vast majority of cases I think you'll be fine without it.
