I just want some help on how to paint jump pack exhaust thrusters. Even pics with simple layering techniques would be nice. Thanks in advance!

The way I painted mine, and I'll post some pics when I get home.

The pack inself is painted the same color as my marines, then where the thrusters are, I painted it yellow with black stripes, so that it looks like caution tape, then gave it a wash of Badab Black to make it look sooty.

Thank you, I can't wait to see them. These are my first assault troops, so I want cool exhaust and propulsion and stuff and am just looking for ideas. Thanks for the future help Catyrpelius!

You could use the exhaust model that armorcast makes for jump packs.

Thank you for the exhaust ideas Fallenbourne. To be honest, I don't feel I could utilize them very well. I'm quite new at the modeling/painting aspect of the game, so I kind of don't know how to tackle those, haha.

You could just carefully stipple some black around the edge of the thrusters. This would be a nice easy way of doing it.

Sadly, no pics to post, but if you can get weathering pigments/powders without too much hassle, it'd make soot a breeze. Barring that, a drybrushing of black does the trick, as well. Less paint and more passes is the way to go for this one, as a nice gradient will really enhance the effect.

You might also be able to get a black wash to work, but take care - if you're not covering an entire and deeply textured area, which is where washes really shine, you may end up with a great, sooty transition into a squiggly black line. Surface tension and evaporation do funny things to washes when they don't have enough texture to hold onto.

On the pack itself you could just stipple some boltgun metal to represent paint chips and was with black or a brown ink to represent scorch marks? that's the basic way and for the thrusters themselves start with a dark red at the edge of the circle and work your way into the middle using oranges and yellows to a white point in the middle of it to represent the radiant heat, you could also use blues so it looks more 'jet pack'
