So I have around 16 Silverhelms and was wondering if I am better off just picking up 10 Dragon Princes instead, I mean for 8 more points you get +1WS +1A +LD and better armour and a freesheild. Now maybe i am wrong and silverhelms have a worth compared to dragonprinces but as i see it 8 points more a model is a fair price for what you get. I would be interested to see folks impression of these two units.

Bonus question: Are either of the highelf rare slots viable at all as boltthrowers seem kinda meh and i dont really see eagles being all that great

I dont think either are a good choice.. Dragon princes hit as hard as sword masters (for one round) for 2x the cost and then are useless after the 1st round

The big nerfs to cavalry and the already subpar nature of HE cavalry made them really bad imo

Hmm, if you really need movement speed, my personal opinion is that silverhelms are worthless and it's all about Dragon Princes. Silver helms are just god-awful weak when it comes to hitting power, but their price isn't that low.
You could try converting the silver helms into dragon princes with a bit of green stuff and painting.

But if you can make due with 6" move instead of 8", I'd go with White Lions or Swordmasters with the +1" move banner instead of Dragon Princes.

255 points for 14 White Lions with full command, 6" movement, S6 attacks every round with ASF. 14 wounds total. 3+ armor save against shooting. Lions are stubborn and forest striders.

260 points is only 7 Princes. Only 2" extra movement. Half as many wounds before they die. They're only S3 every phase except charging (so if they get charged, they're S3 garbage.)

WL get 15 S6 attacks on charge or if charged, and on 2nd round.
DP get 15 S5 attacks on charge + 5-7 horsie S3s.
On 2nd round or if charged, only 14 S3 attacks and horsie ones.

Becoming S3 if you don't get the charge off isn't worth the 2" movement speed to me. If White Lions fail a charge and the enemy charge them, the white lions can often get a crushing victory still. Not so with dragon princes.

TheBloodGod, the other advantage that DPs have is that the roll 3d6 for charge and picks highest 2, I6 vs 5 and have AS2+.

Run vs those WLs:

DPs 'should' get charge... and they have higher Int so go first.
7 hits 6 dead from DPs, 1 from horses. So 7 dead total.

8 WL attacks back - 4 hits, 4 wounds and 2 dead.

If WLs stay... next round
DPs 5 hits and 3 wounds , 2 dead. Horses - 1 dead (3 total)

5 attacks, 3 hits, 3 wounds, 1-2 dead.

The WLs will die quicker.


The HUGE advantage DPs have is AS2+ whereas WLs have 5+AS- they die if you hit them with a spitball.

Now vs large units from other armies.... its WLs every time as they are stubborn.
