Hi, I'm a newbie and I'm new to converting stuff. I have made a few conversions on some commissioned works but nothing big (so far I've just put some Kroot heads on a pike for a warbike some Tau rifles on the back of some orks).

Similar to the tau-space marine question: do IG heads fit nicely with SM ones? I was planning on converting my whole upcoming army and I think some IG heads will be nice.

And I'm also getting an AOBR set, which contains a captain. Problem is, I need a librarian for the upcoming tourney(but I don't want to shell money on a libby since my long term goal army will include HQ choices with no librarian in it. Captain isn't in it too, so why not?). What are the rules on conversion, and how can I make him count as a librarian? Can I just make his equipments librarian wargear on the model, so that what you see is still what you get? What counts as a force weapon anyway? Should I just put "Hey I'm a librarian!" on his banner?

Thanks in advance, everyone! Tips and suggestions are welcome and very much appreciated.

Violence is not the answer, but it's always a good guess.

Paint him blue.

Force weapon is anything -- sword, spear, axe -- painted like a power weapon.
For the hood, you can cut down a shoulder pad so that it sticks out over his head.
I don't have one -- maybe someone else will post up an example.

10k pts Eldar (no jetbikes -- how is that possible?)

2k pts 3rd edition Wolves (no werewolves or clifford cavalry -- but I do have a nifty Leman Russ Exterminator shaped paperweight)

3k pts chaos marines

Size-wise they're ok, but you'll need to putty on a neck.

Paint him blue, add on some yellow lightning bolts somewhere prominent, and it should be good enough for most.

Force weapons, model-wise, are covered in a tracery of psychic power-focussing circuitry. Have a look at the pics in the codex, and paint something similar onto the powersword if you want to make the Force weapon stand out from a normal powersword.

Personally, I don't think that imperial guard heads would look good on space marines... Maybe some of the catachan heads at a push, but I dont think that the regualar helmed cadian heads would work at all.

Just my opinion on the matter, you are obviously entitled to your own opinion Don't let me desuade you from being creative at all hehe!

Thanks,

Tom

Don't worry, I wasn't planning on using helmed heads anyway. It's more of so that i can have alternative heads for my sarges and maybe some of my HQ.

Edit: Just so you know, I'm modifying the AOBR captain inot Librarian. Will it be mandatory for the psychic hood to be represented?

I don't know about "mandatory." I imagine individual TOs and/or opponents will be more or less picky about WYSIWYG/counts-as models, so it's hard to say. If you want the model to actually be recognizable as a librarian then yes, I'd say cover that head. If the tourney rules specify strict WYSIWYG, then yes. If you aren't sure, you could always ask the TO (the earlier, the better).

Personally, I'd trim down a SM shoulderpad, glue it in place, then add small lengths of wire (guitar wire has a nice texture, but I doubt you'll be able to fit more than a light gauge low-E without getting out of scale) between the inner wall and the head. Might fill the back in with GS to give a solid backing for the wires. I'd probably also plasticard/GS a book for him, to further help with identification. Might be able to clip off the pouch above his right leg and hang it from his belt. Seems like a reasonable spot.

Nylon strings?

You should represent the hood in some way, but that could be as simple as giving him a very unique helmet (e.g. a trimmed-down chaos helemet?) if you don't mind removing the standard head. Keeping the standard bare head doesn't seem fluffy somehow. Oadie's idea of converting a shoulderpad is well worth a try - cheap to do, and I've seen it done well.
