Last week I was lucky enough to receive a generous donation of a load of gobbos, some orcses, a few dwarves and some chaos dwarves. There were some ogres but with small rectangular bases and their construction suggests board game expansion figures of some type. Possibly even some toy or other but are okay and begging for GS work
(Will pop up some pics on the morrow)

Yesterday also received the old WD supplement for the Chaos Dwarves, and it transpires that the orcs I got were Black Orcs and that Chaos Dwarves can run with orcs and goblins.
This was good news I think, as there are not enough CD's to form anything on their own.

Off the top of my head there are:

16 CD warriors with command
8 blunderbusses
Earthshaker cannon
Rocket Launcher
(both with crew)

15 Black Orcs w/full command
5 orc arrer boyz
Shaman

Gobbos:
40 archers
40 speargoblins

Squig herders + 3 squigs

a few other gobbos for conversions

ogres x6

To this add my Skull Pass Gobbos and troll.

Now then before I reckon up the points available to make a list, is it okay to run the lot together?
I guess as i won't be playing tourneys it won't matter overmuch but don't wish to be cheesy.

Also there is no mention of Night Gobbos though the fluff is maleable I guess.

Was previously thinking of adding a giant (scratchbuilding) and maybe at some stage getting river trolls on the practical basis of liking the sculpts

Would it be worth getting any more black orcs, adding fanatics and artillery would be good from what I understand in 8th ed.

Any comments advice would be much appreciated please.

I love Chaos Dwarves.

But I wouldn't play against them using their rule book. Use the Dwarf rules. There's a reason they aren't used anymore and it's not just because they weren't popular.

Earthshakers and Blunderbusses are stupid powerful for their costs. If you get unlucky and charge short of a blunderbus line they can effectively wipe out hordes of units. And Earthshakers are crazy in that they can pin down entire armies indefinitely. They were smoking crack when they came up with these units.

If you want to use Chaos Dwarfs, just use the regular Dwarf rules and call them Thunderers and Cannons/Grudge Throwers, respectively. You could say the goblins are just generic Dwarf warriors and the black orks are hammerers or slayers or something. The Ogres a bit too big to fit in the Dwarf army, however. Just make sure your opponent knows. Maybe have slips of paper that reminds them.

But not even the CD book allowed squig hoppers and stuff. And not Ogres at all, as I believe that was before Dogs of War. Mixing and matching armies is kinda dangerous, which is why Dogs of War is gone. Because each army book has its own strengths and weaknesses. If you can pick up Black Orcs and Ogres as well as some of the best war machines that were ever invented and some truly insane rifles AND a shaman, you are basically cherry picking all the best units from multiple armies. Throw in a Slaan and a Dragon while you're at it :p

But they're cool cool models with a very cool story.

Have a look at the GT Indy Chaos Dwarf list to see a fan made but GT Indy official CD list: http://www.filedropper.com/fdwarfsofchaos
or the old GW official Ravening Hordes list (which at least has a fan made 8th edition errata).
Chaos Dwarfs can field Black Orcs and Hobgoblins, not Goblins. I wouldn't recommend to freely mix a 4th edition army book (Chaos Dwarfs) with a 7th edition one of another amry (Goblins).

For further questions and inspiration, come over to the Chaos Dwarf Online website: http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/ and look through their Fanzine "Word of Hashut".

Thanks for the replies except for Aerethan

Linkies much appreciated Kroothawk.
Not had chance to have a look yet but will be useful.

That has addressed my concerns though a super cheesy list might be the way to actually beat the kids at the Library Club

Sadly I doubt that I will be able to get enough CD's to run an army independently of other armies. If I used Dwarf stats and costs (I have the army book) would it be okay to use them as allies with orcs and goblins?

Also, I like the possibility of running different O&G lists, so would I be correct in thinking that ogres can be used. I am still trying to get the current O&G army book. (forgot that there is an old one knocking around somewhere! It is at the library now I think about it )

Thanks again chaps.

There are specific rules about allies in the big book, meaning multiple players teaming up. But anyone can ally with anyone. Warriors of Chaos can ally with Empire. But in that case they are just treated as enemies that can't attack each other. I.e., desperate allies. So, sure. But if you're talking about mixing dwarfs and O&G in the same army, no. You can't mix anything from different army books--that's why they are in different army books. An army is balanced within itself. Just buy regular dwarfs and paint them Chaosy. Ironbreakers and such are a good choice. And there are tons of CD on ebay.

O&G don't get ogres. Again. No mixing of different army books unless those units are specifically in that codex.

Thanks Duke

Well I was just going by the old Chaos Dwarf book which has O&G with the Chaos Dwarves as the former are used as slaves and recruited into their army.

My "problem" is that I'm planning to build an orthodox Dwarves army as my primary WHFB army. For sheer fun of running O&G and now as they are my biggest mob will be running them too.
It would be cool to be able to use the few chaos dwarves if I could, but with all my other hobby/life commitments, it will be impractical for me to start building them as well.
Maybe some way down the line.

Guess I can always use them as count as Dwarves until I get some more legit models. I like the idea of converting Dwarves to Chaos. That would be really cool. As I said am already oversubscribed on projects.

Looks Like I can add converting the ogres to river trolls to the list as I hate to waste them

The only Chaos dwarves currently in 8th (that I know of) are the crew for the Hellcannon on WoC. You could presumably do the same thing. Replacing the crew of O&G war machines with CD. They're just markers after all.
