So I just want to know what people think of Psychic hoods? Personally I think they're Awesome!!!

Played a game a while back against my Brother who was basically working out what his new SW's could do and he used a runepriest. Not a single psychic attack made a dent! So fun. (pissed him off though)

I'll bet. Must suck if they get rid of em then haha. 24 Inch range is absolutely fine with me. I have to keep my Librarian or Inquisitor (DH) in the thick of things. Makes for more interesting Play i think.

I love hoods as well. My roommate plays nids and being able to nullify half his zoanthrope attacks before they even happen is a huge bonus.

HELL YEAH!!! That's what I'm talking about!!! Man hoods are the AB FAB aren't they? I'm sure they're under rated.

Hoods are useful, but I would never take one just to take one. If the character doesn't have another purpose, the points are better spent on more important things. Even when the hood does find a match up where psychic powers are devastating, it doesn't work every time.

That being said, I always bring a SM librarian in my normal SM lists, the guy is cheap, and his utility is pretty large (good powers, and is a cheap HQ)

Psychic hoods are great because several armies hinge on psychic powers going off. Nothing is better than zoneathropes strait up not being able to shoot or fortune failing to go off on a seer council.

Psychic hoods are good because it allows you to shut down some potentially dangerous powers.
However, I wonder how long until they nerf it like they did to Shadow in the Warp. That still makes no sense.

Psychic hoods got nerfed already.

they went from unlimited range to 24" range.

24" isn't game breaking and the prelavence of them makes people stay away from Gimmicky armies that rely on Psychic powers.

A DA Librarian is also LD 9 for no discernible reason which is a big drawback.

Ezekiel is a waste of pts, but DA should always have some HQ with Rites of Battle which makes the hood ld 10

The eye of terror.

I could be wrong but I thought that Rites of Battle specified that the LD bonus is only for morale and pinning checks.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Psychic Hoods are great! However, I have to say that Eldar Farseers are on par with having the best Anti-Psychic Power defenses with Runes of Warding. They work similarly with Tyranid Synapse, but instead of 24", they have unlimited range.

It specificly says that it doesnt work for psychic tests, thats it.

RoWard is alot better than a hood.

Tyranid Synapse confers Fearless to units within 12" of a Synapse Creatures, you're thinking of the Shadow in the Warp.

True. But it says specifically that it works for morale, pinning and leadership checks. When using the psychic hood, the DA Librarian is not taking a morale, pinning or leadership check and so cannot receive the benefits from "Rites of Battle." He is simply making an oppossed roll that is modified by each model's LD value, just like Mind War.

even with RoW a Ld10 psyker(Vanilla SMs, most SC psykers) will pass 50% of the time.

Psychic Hood doesn't cost anything above the basic cost of the Librarian.

they are roughly equal.

RoW is also canceled out by SITW. Hoods arn't.

RoWard has a high chance of casuing wounds on the opposing psyker, a ld 10 psyker will get trough 54% vs a ld 10 hood and will not cause any increased wounds. Most of the time the range is 24". So, ALOT better might not be entirely true, but imo certainly better.

What does SitW has to do with anything? Are you thinking of RoWit?

Shadows of the Warp is the Tyranid's defense against Psychic Powers. Since we're on the topic of discussing Psychic Hoods, and how armies defend themselves against opposing Psykers, then I can see how Shadows of the Warp is relevant.

That said, I'm pretty sure Grey Templar was trying to compare Shadows of the Warp and Runes of Witnessing.
