Since I really don't like GW's Dante model, i figured to create my own. This Dante is based on a Sanguinary Guard model and a jetpack/parts from death company. Instead of using the only a basic SG head, I created a helmet over the death mask. Other than that, there is basic addition for a loin cloth and fill in for his arm. Now for a base and some color.. i don't like gold that much.

Thats a really nice conversion, looks much better than the GW Dante in my opinion, much more in character with the army IMO.

Well done.

So finished painting the Dante. Did decide to go with the gold body but added a lot of red accents to offset the bright color. You can't really see it in the picture but above his left foot it says BAAL. Pretty happy with how Dante turned out. As you can see, I took pictures of Dante with my other sanguinary guard (one finished). Now for the base...

Interesting picture I got by messing with the flash

I apologize for the crappy pics, unfortunately the detail gets washed out by the flash. None of the colors are just one pure color, it is blended with accents. Stupid camera

It's a cool conversion...but I'm not a fan of the wing flaps on the sides of the head.

Yea, he looks like hawk man with those things.

Other than that I like the conversion.

ditto. i like the rest of the conversion but not the head too much. besides, dante specifically has a death mask of his own as wargear; i would have recommended that you use the head of the sang guard in the first group pic. it's not a huge deal but it is one of his famous pieces of wargear (just like if you switched out his axe for a sword... might look cool but people will wonder).

Your Dante conversion is fantastic! i love the helmet. I think from behind, the standard jump pack and wings looks a little too busy, but nontheless this model is heads and shoulders better than the GW version. then again I think Dante, Mephiston, and Brother Corbulo are all long overdue for a new sculpt. I remember seeing all of those same models 10 years ago when i first began collecting...c'mon GW!

Thanks for the comments. I think my main goal was to make him stand out from the sanguinary guard. Using the basic SG head would not have made him stick out enough for me. He still has a death mask on under his helmet (reminds me of the veteran gladiator in Gladiator) or you can consider it a part of his helmet. The helmet and jumppack signify the Blood Angels "air superiority," such as his special rule "Tactical Precision." No space marine should be without a helmet (i dont personally like the non-helmet marines). I personally like Dante's helmet that I made but everyone is titled to an opinion. Also, I decided to do the double jumpack because i wanted it not only be different from the other SG but similiar to the original Dante model (axe, dual jumpack, gold color, etc.).

I completely agree that Dante, Mephiston, and brother Corbulo need an updated model.

Nice work, I particularly like the axe and the blending on the feathers.I like the helmet conversion a lot. The wings on the helm look overdone a bit as he already has wings, but it still looks pretty flippin cool. Good job!

GW always seems to go slow when it comes to updating stuff. I don't like the Corbulo model myself, they could do so much more. I doubt that GW will focus anymore on the Blood Angels right now, they need to direct their attention towards finishing updating codex. By this rate you may just want to make your own model, 14 months is a long time to wait.
