This really upsets me. As someone who just got out of public school seeing all the budget cuts i know know were all that money went. A MONUMENT TO STUPIDITY.
Why would they do that? no school i know needs a public park. or a pool.

There is so much wrong with the Californian government budget. Grand architecture has it's place, but when you're failing to meet basic operating costs...
|
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

In Los Angeles, officials say the new schools were planned long before the economic pinch and are funded by $20 billion in voter-approved bonds that do not affect the educational budget.
Still, even LA Unified Superintendent Ramon Cortines derided some of the extravagance, noting that donations should have been sought to fund the RFK project's talking benches commemorating the site's history.
Looks like this was all bad decision making pre-crash that they just decided not to dispense with.

Seriously, that pissed me off. They cant afford to hire teachers and have a 50% drop out rate, yet they dump half a billion on a school? Are you fething kidding me?! The people responsible for that, need to be executed on public TV. Thats just insane. We dont care about the childrens future, just look at that building eh? Man its nice!

The good news is that the half billion dollar plus price tag helped the local construction industry.
Now let us see if such a large building can properly educate the 4000 plus students that will be attending there.

It'd be good if they could make a nice school, one that kids and teachers alike don't dread having to walk through every day, without having to blow half a billion dollars.

True, but they became immediately problematic with it, rather then something they could continue to put off.

As a teacher who quit due to lack of support, this is ridiculous! I would trade a fancy building for at least one window and plenty of supplies (paper, scissors, normal stuff).
My last classroom had no windows, which makes this building seem even worse!

You should move to California. They've got this huge new school with about a zillion windows and they need to staff up.

Agreed. They've been having budget problems, and poor student teaching difficulties for years.

California should simply start exporting windows to other states. Problem solved.

The annoying thing is they've had a large and successful economy for a long time. It's just Californian govt is a shambles, due to that whole citizen's initiative thing. Well, and a really poor standard of governance in both the major parties.
