I'm trying to develop a fun, competitive and mostly mobile Tau force. What do you think?

HEAVY SUPPORT

Hammerhead RG/BC/DP/MT

1491pts.

As you can see, I've got 9 points to play with. Not sure what I want to do with those. Alternatively, I could ditch one Piranha and add an additional Deathrain to my two squads, bringing my number to 1488. Any suggestions? Finally, do Pirahna do best in units or solo? I'm worried about giving up kill points, but then in if we're just playing for victory points I mightsplit the pack up.

Any opinions?

You're going to get slaughtered in objective-based missions. Those kroot will die fast, and that leaves you with one unit of very squishy firewarriors that - unless you go turn 1 - are left exposed until they can hitch a ride on the path finder's devilfish.

I would almost drop the second 'El and maybe shave down a few other things to add at least one or two 6-man FW + DF units. At <= 2000 pts I also prefer more HH to Broadsides espescially because unless you join one of your 'Els (yes - which I suggested dropping) they have a very good chance of dying fast.

Beyond that not a bad list.

What does PL stand for? PLasmarifLe? Is this not English? I agree with daedalus.nix, that you should demote one Shas'el. Use points to spread fire power to the other suits.

Are you translating from another language?

I think you're missing a lot of firepower opportunity with 4 Deathrains, instead of FS or FKs.

Like daedalus.nix says, too fragile.

Target Array and MT for the Drones to fire too is too little. Upgrade to SMS and then those two upgrades are worthwhile.

I'd combine them into one unit (add Target Lock) and find points for an additional SD. This eliminates a Kill Point, but keeps your abilitiy to split fire.

Piranhas , any vehicles, do best in groups, both because of squadron rules and general survivability.

how is this list mobile? the one part of your army that needs to mobile (i.e. your troops) is left in the dust. Yes kroot can infultrate but what good is it when they have the survivability of a guardsmen?

drop the kroot and the broadsides, from what I see in the list they are solos anywho. Upgrade your fire warrioirs squad and get another one, give them devilfish.

at 1500 you have sunk to mutch into your hq and elites. you can pair it down a tad to make room. In 5ed you need all the mobility you can get.

I hope this can help.
