Subject: Games Day review and Necron extrapolations...
Went to Games Day this year and was pleasantly surprised. Cost was 25$ at the door if you left with less that 25$ worth of GW product than you werent having fun.
There was all the make and take from years gone by. The only difference was they had things like the new deamon prince sprue at the conversion corner, a table/scenery build of 3 tables where there raffled off the tables and scenerey that was fininshed. ETC.
Most events ended with you keeping the fig you worked on and then getting a ticket the ticket was good for a "carnival of chaos" mini game ala a real carnival. The prizes here were the old product/bought back products from out of business stores etc. I saw some people getting old battallion boxes and I know for sure they gave out limited edition stuff like bonsingers. Towards the end they were literally dumping the left over blisters stating if you dont grab it, its going in the trash. I grabbed
Besides that there was actual open gaming this year which was nice. I didnt get to play but it was ok anyway.
FW ran out of all marines before 1100. The line was very long anyway. Literally 200+ people by my estimeat. I went later when they were out of figs and filled the paper out for what I wanted. No wait and the less that $250 worth of stuff i wanted will be shipped directly to my house. I can wait a week to get stuff at my house vs. get it at GD. Did buy the grot bot on the spot though. (yay for illiteration)
Golden Deamon was neato...some really amzing stuff there Kroot Camp in the Reaver fist was awsome. I will never understand why they keep using the tore up plexiglass thats covered in scratches. Sucks to wait in line and then not even get good photos of the stuff. The stuff that doesnt make the cuts stays in the nice cases? Irritated me a bit.
NECRONS are approximately a year to year and a half away. Heres what was stated during a conversation cant remember the sculptor I spoke to but he was the heavy set guy next to Jon Blanche while Blanche was sketching.
1. In his hand was working on a 3-up head that was "as if someone was left in a arid dry envirnoment for thousands of years something like a necron head with skin over it".
2. The stuff he is currently working on is due in about a year.
2. He was working on the island of blood stuff this time last year.
HE/Skaven news/interesting point, he seemed genuinely worried/perplexed about how they were going to out due the Island of Blood when the next box comes out. He said they after 3 years of working with Cad are really happy at last. Most models are still sculpted and scanned, just the IoB slaves were done in CAD with weapon swaps.
One last sort of bummer, there will be no plastic box sets that are compatible with the IOB. IE no way to flesh out the units like seaguard or Rat Ogres.
Ill post more later if there are questions. Bottom line this year was funner than the last 3 and worth the money for those that think GD is a cash grab of bits and models. I was busy and having fun the whole time.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and the head looked very similar to the Night Bringer.
Sort of gaunt zombie.

I would have had a Ston of pics but the plexiglass looked like the dragged it across the ground via tow truck to get it there. Just couldt get clear photos. Sorry one of my favorite parts of GD is the creativity and skill of some GD models.
One other plus the GD fig was 13.25 due to an error instead of 15 each. There was no limit and people were hoarding them. Dont pay too much for them on Ebay. I have a feeling there will be plenty available in the future either via direct of other events.
Last complaint...the shirt was lame. Warhammer with KF on the back was nowhere near as cool as the Staff BA shirts.
One last sculpting note, No plans for Zombies to match the corpse cart on the table at the moment...but they want to get to them.

Had a chance to talk to Mr. Blanche as well. Looked through some of his finished art. He completed an array of Dark Eldar and Brettonian artwork. He expressed his dismay that the art work for the Brettonians would be dubbed down from fantastical looks to more medeval looks.
He would not say yes or no to Dark Eldar and Brettonian coming out but he did say he completed the artwork for it...which was very spiky for DE. I will post picks tonight.

When they were giving out free gak.. a fight nearly broke out when they threw an AoBR into the crowd..
I saw people walking away with IG megaforces, space hulks, basilisks, chimeras..even monolliths. I grabbed a mek with Shokk attack gun for my new ork army

Don't know about the 1 year to 18 months for necrons. Sculptors don't get any heads up, they just get asked to make stuff.
The necrons are done, from what I have been told, and was also told that it'll be January when we will see the Necrons being set free upon the world. New, bigger, Immortals on larger bases.

Then again, until they are ready to release info there will always be rumblings but nothing official.

That Liktor won the Slayer Sword?? I mean: "Yeay! Go Tyranids!" and all but ... he does not look that good, the conversion also is not that good. Maybe photo does not catch the true qualitiy of the paint job but I am irritated.

Whilst I don't think it'll be January next year, I don't think we'll have to wait the year+ mentioned above.

Did they really just throw boxes and boxes of stuff into the crowd? It seems very much against GW's usual way of doing things (i.e. charging). I don't think anything like this ever happens at a UK Games Day, at least not when I've been... Seems pretty irresponsible to me.

First off Joe I agree with you about the lictor. The colors just seem off to me with very little contrast. Nice paint but....maybe it was better in person.
I find it ironic that GW no longer holds their old "auctions" in the stores to get rid of old stuff but they will throw it into the crowd at games day. That is just stupid as hell.

They did, and like the stampede to get into the FW line in the morning, I thought it was a bit of a shame :-/. Better to do a drawing or some such...
Unfortunately, GW also didn't give most of the clubs anything who had worked hard on making and running tables for the event. In past years they'd been given a full crate of stuff each! Now, that's not why they do it, and of course GW isn't obligated to give them anything, but it was something nice they'd done before and didn't do (for the most part) this time around.
But the distribution-of-free-stuff aside, I thought EVERYTHING was awesome. And as the OP said, if you wanted free stuff, there were a lot of "make and take" stations where you could convert something and take it home, or the like. I give GW a 95% satisfaction rate (for myself ) on this GamesDay

@OP Let me get this straight you paid 25$ so you could buy more GW stuff that you could normally buy at a store or on line. You said you didn't get any forgeworld stuff because the line was too long. Well I can understand why it's the only reason to go but not really I doubt if you ordered stuff from Forgeworld you would have to pay more than 25 dollars shipping. I hope you had a good time.

First off it is hard often in pics to really show off the amazing level of a lot of those models. Though personally I would have gone withZach Laniers empire on horse Swansons Lictor was actually beautiful. Though a lot of demons are converted the painting is what is going to sell the judges in the U.S. No one is ever please it seems with the judging for one reason or another, but in the end you should just say hey great job and move on.
Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
