While trying to scan some drawings to put on here, my HP photosmart C4880 scrued up. I have a mac and i t says
scanning............... scan error, scan from computer or see documentation. can anyone help me before I smash this thing up

What TWAIN-interfacing or other software are you using to scan with?

Most recent HP printers have a 'Start Scan' or 'Scan To' button - if the HP drivers or software are having problems, your best bets are to reinstall the drivers and/or software suites and give it another go. First, though, I would try interfacing with the scanner from a program such a Photoshop or whatever you usually use. If you don't understand any of this, you should leave the scanner alone, take a chill pill, and find someone local who knows what they're doing.

I have a scanjet 4070 and it works fine with a mate's mac.

He needed to scan some stuff and didn't need a full-time scanner and I gave him the coasters* that came with my scanner so that he could use it.


*coasters being what I call the mac driver discs for the scanner. They were more useful to me as such than as discs - not being a iMaCuSeR and all.

Can you re-install drivers?

The software for PC had uninstall issues (prevented re-install) but there's a patch for it that fixes issues.

Try reinstalling and see what happens. Always do that first :/


Edit: Also, is it acting any physically different?
