I saw this in another forum (i believe it was lustria online but i can't seem to find it )

So if the Slann BSB general takes the standard of dicipline he becomes LD 10 but any unit he joins can't use inspiring pressence.
But oh wait hes in the unit so they use his LD 10 re-rollable, cold blooded.
Not only that but other units within 12" get to do the same, because they are allowed to use his inspiring pressence which is now LD 10.
So i'm just wondering if this is truly legal or am i missing something, cuz that sounds way too good for 15 pts

From what I understand that sounds right.

I read the rule a different way. Yes, the Slann and his unit will become rerollable LD 10. However, since he can't use the inspiring presence rule, no other unit may use his leadership.

It's not just that he (the general) can't be on the receiving end of the rule, but he cannot use the rule at all.

Except, as was explained previously, "use" is active here - you are prohibited from actively using the rule yourself, however the general does not lose the rule meaning OTHERS can use the rule just fine.

In other words this is perfectly fine.

How do you get that

Only the unit with the standard is prohibited from using the IP, nowhere does it say its actually removed or disabled in any way, they just can't use it themselves.

Because Malleus seems to think, entirely incorrectly, that the General has to actively USE inspiring presence, rather than it being an entirely passive effect that *other* units make use of.

Tried to explain before, got nowhere, so as its the only dissenting opinion I suggest trying it out for real.

And watch as you fail your ld 10 reroll cold blooded stubborn roll on that critical test

Hm. Sorry if I missed a previous thread on this topic. I'll defer to the opinion of the majority.

In which case, it's a broken item. Disgusting.

Especially since that if they are in range of IP, then they also are in range of the BSB.....

Broken for one unit from one army book that gets to have it on their general BSB. Not really disgusting otherwise.

I saw a Slaan BSB in a Steadfast unit that lost combat subsequently fail it's rerollable LD 10 cold blooded test less than two weeks after 8th came out. The Leezard player was bummed to discover his Slaan went "pop." There was much lamenting.

Actually, it also works if the General joins a unit that has it.

Thats why unbreakable guards are needed.

The point was that the biggest benefit of it comes from a slaan BSB general. For everyone else it is merely useful.
