Subject: battleground sounds? where can i find some?
O.k everyone, here I go again, half cocked ready with more ideas and wanting nothing more than to see my plans to the end, my friends and I are avid modellers and collectors and have been for a little while now (15 years) we don't play much but now we want to go all out and have a battle night! this is how we imagine it, ther's a knock on the door, I scurry through pitch blackness trying to find the handle in the chill mist that envelopes my passage, creaking and with a thud of finallity the door opens revealing captain Adamus with a large box containing the straining throngs of his mighty blood angels force ready to do bloody battle across the game board, he enters my domain, his eyes slowly adjusting to the dark until they rest apon my gaming table bathed in soft light from a solitary globe only enough light eminating to cast it's touch apon the rocky surface, a thick damp fog wraps itself around our legs and the supports of our battle ground (yep it's a smoke machine ) and finally the sounds of gunfire, shouts of office and the whistle of a missile barrage assault our ears.
o.k? got the general idea? the only thing i'm missing is the sounds of battle! I can't seem to find anything suitable, we love making a real atmosphere when we play and we really want to add this to it, so if anyone knows where I can get a cd of war sounds, gunfire, planes, rockets etc. let me know!
until next time

The vast majority of sound effects used in war and action movies are actually stock sound effects - ever get the feeling you recognize that police radio chatter or that distinctive scream, or that all explosions seem to sound like that one just sounded? That's because they've probably been used in a dozen different movies.
These sounds are all available for private and commercial use.
Yes, you have to pay for them, they're copyrighted.
Or, if you want to find some half-baked homebrew stuff, a Google search is your best bet.
my god, you're right, we could if we're careful and have the right financial backer make at least, at the very least, twenty maybe even thiry bucks apiece?

Dogpile.com used to have an audio search feature, but sadly no more.
One of the places I'd actually check is your local library. Often crammed into some forgotten corner of their music section they have a few sound effects CDs.
I might be able to be bribed into making something for you, how long do you need it to be? A loop may be something thats worth looking into, every 30 mins or so it loops and replays, though loops can in effect be as long/big as you have disc space for.
