So for whatever reason many of the people in my gaming club think that for whatever reason if Unit A was engaged with Unit B from a previous turn and then Unit C charged unit A, Unit A cannot attack unit C, they can only attack Unit B.

Now I am just about 99.999999999999999999% certain that this is wrong, and that models in Unit A can freely attack any unit that they are in base contact with.

But every time this argument gets brought up I prove them wrong but the ruling ends in

"Everyone here seems to disagree with you, you are the only one who thinks that way, therefore we are going to play the way that WE say is right."

Here is what they all think. See Page 41 of the BRB, The two bullet points under "Attacking" (also check the FAQ)

For the bullet points, they all seem to think that "round of combat" means "assault phase" when it actually means, you know, ROUND OF COMBAT.

So I'm just going to end it now. Pick the answer above please

Then whenever they bring it up and say "Everyone here seems to disagree with you, you are the only one who thinks that way, therefore we are going to play the way that WE say is right." I can just say the same thing but replace "everyone here" with "the rest of the world," (assuming that i'm right )

GW even made an errata to "clear" this up. Check the Rulebook FAQ on their site.

And while I know the search function is fubar here on Dakka atm, this has been hashed to bits multiple times.

We even checked the eratta and they still thought they were right. Like I said I suppose for them popular opinion overrides the rules...

Not much you can do then other than find people who have a clue to play with. :(

Simply tell them to come to dakka then and read though all the threads here as to why they are wrong.

If they refuse, well, there is no helping them.

Yes if they simply come to dakka and read why they are wrong, they will also notice how much THEY are actually the ones who are out numbered on the ruling.

I find peaple like that need to Follow thier Rules until they beg you to stop. Just start hitting them with the Termies with SS and THEN the IC with Paired Lighting Claws. After a few games of watching thier Power Fist Bouncing off Storm Shields while the easy kill can't be touched. When they sart to Whine look at them and say "It's not my ruling its yours"

Yeah. Seriously. This issue has been brought up and resolved like twenty times on this board at least.

The GW errata even fixes it and those guys rarely bother to fix anything.

Show your friends the chart on page 33 and point to the bullet that says "Pick a Combat" underneath the Resolve Combats headline. That's when combat starts.

Check out page 34 too. Note how Fighting a Close Combat comes later in the assault phase, after charges have been declared and moved.

I cant do that because its not "their ruling" its their interpretation of the ruling in the rulebook. They think that the whole thing is the way the rules are supposed to be.

Just show them this thread, and work out they are in the minority. Or get them to play in a tournament outside their area and work out, the hard wasy, that this doesnt work.

I know It’s their "Interpretation", "Ruling" or whatever, that’s not the point. The point is they want it this one; Abuse the Holy out of it until they want to change how they see it. We have done this for both Gaming, LARPing and in the Business world. It works every time, it may take a wile, but it will work.
