Subject: Kroot counts as.... tyranids?

Trustworthy Shas'vre

I have a Kroot army (based on the initial chapter approved list) that I want to start entering in tournaments. However the next one in my area is only allowing the official codices.
Which army do you think would be the best army to use 'counts as' for Kroot?
My thinking so far is that Dark Eldar, Tau, Orks and Tyranids might all fit the bill, leaning towards nids. It also seems quite fitting, given that both races have a penchant for eating the flesh of their dead, and it works the 'eaters of the dead' rule in nicely as 'feed'
Using a Prime (and/or perhaps the Parasite of Mortrex) as my HQ to represent Shaper/Winged Shaper;
Shamans = Zoanthropes
Krootox = Hive Guard (or possibly Pyrovores/Biovores)
Carnivores = Hormagaunts (perhaps with one unit of Termagants)
Vulture Kindred = Gargoyles
Stalker Kindred = Ymgarl Genestealers
Headhunter Kindred = Genestealers or Hormagaunts
Shaper Council = Warrior / Shrike Brood / Ravener Brood / Lictor Brood (any of the 3 wound warrior sized models)
Great Knarloc = Carnifex
Kroot Hounds = Ripper Swarms/Hormagaunts
Now I don't know much about nids tactics.... is it possible to build a viable 1000 - 2000 point list revolving around these units? I figure it could be a very fast, horde which focusses on Hormagaunt combat backed up where needed by a few, slightly more elite units of warriors, genestealers and Carnifexes, and with ranged support in the form of Hive Guard, Ranged 'fexes and Zoanthropes.
Is such a list possible? Do i need the help of some more specialised creatures like the venomthrope, tervigon or a Hive Tyrant to make the list work?
Any adivce from nid (or Kroot!) players much appreciated

Well, you could run hormagaunts, gargoyles as a screen. Hive Guard behind, or Zoanthropes in front, and Carnifexes in back, but it might be better to use the Great Knarloc for a Hive Tyrant/ Swarmlord and the Shaper Council as Tyrant Guard (I don't know, I don't know Tau well enough to know what those units look like). How many points would you like?

This is actually a great idea, I've never thought about running Kroot as Tyranids before.
I've heard Kroot as IG and Kroot as Tau, but never Kroot as Nids. Cool idea!
Unfortunately, I know very little about running Nids, so I can't really give you any constructive feedback.
I'm also a big fan of an all-Kroot army. I hate Kroot with a passion in regards to Tau armies, but on their own they make a very cool army both in look and feel. It's something I've considered, personally!
But I would personally run the old Chapter Approved lists, and only run them in friendly games.

The leader figures take the place for synapse, interesting. I'd like to see this completed.

My personal favorite was always Kroot counting as Dark Eldar: Lightly armoured but fast hitting.
But I have to admit that your idea might work as well.

I would have trouble justifying Dark Eldar weapons in regards to Kroot...
...then again, Tyranids...
