Subject: DIY marines or Brazen Minotaurs?

Hello again from the night shift worker with too much spare time! i'm considering starting another SM army but am stuck on which one? I like the gold armour of the Brazen or white minotaurs but there isn't any fluff about them and nothing I can really work on for modelling or converting, so basically I have about as much to go on as if I made them a diy chapter, so do i make them up myself and change helmet colours and name or do i persevere with the lesser known chapter and take comfort in the fact that they are an actual chapter? and can just use the vanilla rules? i know people will say just do what you want but i'm looking to see what would be cooler? so I can make my decisions about buying conversion materials and vehicles and things, sorry to ramble again but it's ben a long night

the minotaurs chapter was involved in the badab war (on the imperial side I believe) and is famous for charging, then retreating, then charging, then retreating.... like a bull. get it? If you do that army you'll have the only 1. Probably in the country.

must agree with above post. i think it would be cool to have an army that is in fluff so you can build upon it but it is still very much your own.

yes you're right, it's cool to have fluff, but the chapter i'm thinking isn't the minatours you're thinking of :-( the ones you're mentioning fades from red up to yellow on the armour (someone has done some on the painting blogs) i'm thinking the ones from how to paint space marines, and they're slightly more boring than the cool minatours! :-) i'll keep thinking on it and let you know waht I decide

I always recommend doing your own Chapter. Even if it is a boring, identical-to-published-Chapter paint scheme, rename it and make it your own. Excercise your own imagination! My Marines have the most boring paint job ever, because I can finish a squad in 90 minutes that way. But when the plain black-armored Marines are called the Void Jackals and I can provide a little backstory, it suddenly makes them seem a little more ominous.
So I say always, always do your own names and fluff, and use the Codex of your choice and stick to it. By that, I mean the Void Jackals are a Codex: Space Marines army. I would never run the using Codex: Dark Angels or Codex: Blood Angels. Those would require a new Space Marine army.

Alright it's settled then, my own chapter! they'll be cool, similar in scheme to marines exemplar but with yellow arms, and i'm working on name and stuff at the moment it'll be a bit silly but personally cool for me! you'll have to wait and see!
