Just a quick confirming question. If say for example you have a marine captain and a command squad, wouldnt they both be deployed at the start of the game, or would just the captain be deployed. I reckoned it was both as their a attached unit he cannot leave. correct?

No.

Command squads are not retinues. You can only deploy (up to) one HQ unit in DoW, so you could deploy the Captain or the Command Squad, but not both.

No, they are separate units, the Marine Captain does not have to join them and if he does, he can leave them.

Just for clarity:

That was last edition. In the current codex, having the IC 'unlocks' the Command Squad, but they are a separate unit. The IC only joins the unit if you want him to.

So as already pointed out, in DoW you would only be able to deploy one or the other.

while we are on the subject, If I deploy a Unit of boyz and a dedicated transport (trukk) is that one choice or two?

How do Infantry platoons deploy their dawn of war?

I have to admit, I miss the old Infantry battles of 4E compared to this 5E wonderland of APCs/IFVs everywhere. It's like we jumped from WWI to WWII.

Two.

And poorly. (Same thing. Two UNITS only)

Just so I'm extra clear on this...

An IC joined to another unit is counted as two units for DoW deployment, even though they are counted as a single unit for almost everything else (because the IC essentially becomes 'part' of the unit he is joined to for all purposes except during Assault)?

You know, they use the squad in a dedicated transport as an example in the DoW deployment rules...........................

Platoons? I usually do them as two 30-man blobs. Two units.

So an IG player could not claim to deploy 6 10 man squads for Dawn of War?

No, because despite counting as one FOC *choice*, they are still seperate *units*, and DoW restricts you based on the number of UNITS you deploy.

No, he can't. But he can merge the three 10-man Infantry squads from 1st platoon into a single UNIT and deploy it, and do the same for the three 10-man Infantry squads from 2nd platoon. Now he has deployed all six squads but done so as two units.
