•Square Enix has calculated (guessed/tested) how many skill points a player can approximately earn in 8 hours. If you gain this amount of skill points in an 8 hour period you start to become fatigued (gaining fewer skill points per monster).
•Over the next 7 hours worth of skill points (after the first 8), you will slowly gain fewer skill per monster killed. The amount of skill points you gain slowly decreases over these 7 hours.
•Once the 7 hours worth of skill-points is gained, you will no longer be able to gain skill points for that class.
•You are able to switch classes and start gaining skill points for the new class as each class has their own fatigue systems/timers.
•Fatigued classes will become 100% not-fatigued over the course of a week. This means you fatigued classes will become less fatigued for each hour you are not gaining skill points for it.
•Experience points you gain for your physical level follows the same system described above for skill points.
•Since you gain physical level EXP regardless of what class you are playing, you can only get physical level EXP for 15 hours worth of leveling per week. (Note, they are looking at tweaking the numbers for physical level to not be as harsh as the skill point fatigue system.)

Ouch.. so much for getting to play the class you want for a decent amount of time per week while leveling it..

Not sure its worth paying to play to level 15 hours a week...

I'm not sure playing 8 hours out of a 24 hour day should really be considered all that limiting, but whatever.

If you play 8 hours.. your next 7 hours in Fatigued for lowerd xp

After 15 hours, you gain NO XP for that class for a *full week* to drop back to normal..

So you can level a class for only 15 hours a week.

Which forces the leveling of other classes if you want to play more then 15 hours a week.

So you only really get to play your main class 2 hours a day for a week to have any gain till max level.

if you level a Main + Subjob to max each week you get to play 4 hours a day of leveling.. which is average to low when you take in weekends to where most play more then 4 hours.

Its very limiting in a game your charged monthly to play.

MMOs and traditional leveling be it console, MMO or tabletop were fail to begin with. It's interesting to see tweaks on it, but you could probably do something that's just as fun and worlds more productive with those other hours. Learn an instrument, take a dance class, go out and socialize, the options are endless.

I dont think its a horrible idea tbh.

Leveling in games (especially if your guilded) is all people seem to care about.

It would be nice to max out your exp and not feel obligated to keep grinding. This gives you excuses to explore, farm dungeons or named mobs for gear, etc.

Also in MMO's for me, out of sessions where i really sit down and play for a few hours, Less then half of that is probably hard core exp grinding.

Also im assuming the skill points gained in an 8 hour grind is calculated non stop pulling the top exp mobs for 8 hours straight with no breaks. So in reality, you will get much more exp time then 15 hours for the average person.

Except id rather do what i want with my spare time and not be restricted in what i prefer to do when im paying monthly to play

I actually enjoy leveling, im just not a fan of them putting caps like this on it..

Instruments ? Could care less
Dance class.. um no
Socialize ? Amazingly.. you can do that while playing a mmo! I have friends and family that play also and its easier to play a mmo with them than drive an hour or set talking on the phone..

Hard to get laid on the computer. Or is that uncalled for? Srsly though, there's a big difference between being social and playing an MMO, being around new, actual people for one. I won't follow this rant any further although the temptation exists.

This was designed to make it possible for all to play, not just other ones willing to put 19 hour days in. You can still put in 19 hour days, but you just level multiple jobs. Even so we are still talking about a lot of time. You also have to take into account that it isn't 8 flat hours, but 8 hours of combat, which will take longer than 8 hours to cap out.

So what about your friends and family that don't waste 8+ hours a day on an MMO? Do you just not talk to them at all or do you begrudgingly dial a phone on Thanksgiving or something?

You know Cannerus.. not all of us haft to run around trying to get laid, you may have issues with that so maybe thats where your comments are from ? Or do you have trouble finding girls that can get past that you play with plastic toys still ?

I could go on... but meh..

@Ahtman

Im not talking about playing 8+ hours a day, im talking playing 3-5 hours a day and being limited down to playing a class for only 15 hours a week before the game says no more xp for you.

Im not one for alts...Subjobs leveld of course.. but other then that, i dont level multiple classes. So Yea, i can go play a ton leveling all the other ones, but thats not how alot of people choose to play.

And youll find there are alot of people who play 4-6 hours a day and still have social lives with friends and family its not hard.....

Along with when a game is new.. its nice to play extra and have your character leveld so you can do other things besides grinding...

Expecially when its prediticted so far that leveling in the game is going to take the same amount of playtime as it takes for 1-75 in FF11.

----
Really is this forum that sad where you can't discuss a leveling system that tells a player how much they will allow them to level a week when they are the ones paying to play.

Or is this the land off butthurt carebear casuals ?

Some people can't handle how much they play games and play 15+ hours a day.. thats their choice.. i don't agree with playing even near that much.. but that is their choice..
That doesnt change how the system is going to work.

I've played games that have a similar system like this, where the more you earn exp the slower you earn it over time, and time spent not earning exp makes it speed back up slowly. Keep in mind your own post says any time spent not earning points rests you, so you're going to get plenty more than 15 hours in before you hit the hard cap. The main people this effects are those who power level, running 24 hours a day in shifts, for which I have no sympathy.

Oddly enough, most of my action comes from the weirder aspects of my personality (example: random dude at the bar asks "want to go back to my place and play smash bros?" after we had been chatting for a bit). Of course I swing both ways so there are twice as many prospects Not to mention that my party gene didn't kick in til the last few months so that might explain why I'm all hopped up on it as of late. Regardless, I think you'll find more people who are concerned about getting laid than if they can play a game for over 8 hours a day.

Everyone... Stop the clocks... We've officially got an internet "laid" fight on our hands. Man, I have -not- seen one of these since dropping WoW 3 years ago. This is awesome!

I think it's a good idea. I've seen too many MMO players lose touch with reality because of 15+ hour sessions. I guess it's one for the parents of these kids.

@Spyder68: If you play three hours a day, that is perhaps 1.5 to 2 hours of combat time. Then when you aren't in it scales back down. If you play 2-3 hours a day you will rarely notice Fatigue.

Also, there are no alts in FF XIV and there are no subjobs. You get X class to level 10 and unlock and ability then level Y job to 10 you will be able to use job X's ability. If you than level job Z to 10 you will be able to choose from X, and Y. It is useful to have more abilities to choose from. You also have to remember crafting and gathering jobs are there own class and not just something you do in town.

You also seem to be having a hard time garnering sympathy for people devoting way to much time to artificial worlds. No one has been saying that games are worthless, but when you lose a sense of what is real and important you need to be unjacked from the Matrix.

Honestly the system doesnt sound to bad...
As other people have mentioned, if you play the game for less than 8 hours a day, and actually sleep/do other things instead of playing, it shouldnt really hinder you at all.

On the flip side it stops the power farmer types, and directly limits people that try and run pay-for levels services, which I dont see as a bad thing anyway...

I'd suggest seeing how it works in action before writing it off as terrible
