Just recently, with the help of fellow Dakkites, I drafted up a competitive IG list for a tournament coming up in December. The list calls for two Hydras, and I don't have the money nor the inclination to buy them from Forgeworld, and I don't have any chimera bases to convert with the conversion kit they're selling, either. So I come to you for advice; what would be the best way for me to obtain two Hydras? I'm happy to do some conversion/modelling, but I don't want to get in to casting my own miniatures. Thanks in advance!

You could build some from scrach, you'll still need the Chimmie for the base but as for the guns try doing what i did

Hope this gives you the drive to better the "Lead Slinger"

Chimera plus defensive guns from planet strike seem quite popualr - the guns are a bit small however.

First, let me say, very nice, Ribon Fox! One of the better scratch-build Hydra turrets I've seen!

When I get my Hydra, I'll personally be getting ForgeWorld's Hydra turret. I love the look of it, more so than anything I could personally put together from scratch, and more so than defensive guns.

This is it:

Or, of course, the cheap option - the quad autocannons from the Aegis Defence Line set

On a related note, does anyone here know if there are any third parties who make a decent flak halftrack at the 28mm scale?

I've always imagined the Hydra Flak Tank as a flak halftrack instead of a tank, I don't know why - especially since "tank" is in the name, not "halftrack..." but there are some very cool looking WWII-era flak halftracks that would look awesome as Hydra stand-ins.

Anyone know of anything that would work?

If you mix and match with some of the old crow stuff you get a really good match for one.
