Another Tyranid question came to me again...boy do I have lots of questions about those pesky galaxy eaters.
Anywho, I picked up 2 Carnifexes and thought to myself, "Gee, tactically, it may just be better to take a Trygon instead" as the Trygon has better stats across the board. Alternately, 3 Carnifexes can be taken in 1 Heavy Support slot. There are also other things in Heavy Support as well, but aside from the Tyrannothingie, nothing else appeals to me.
What have people used when they dedicate all their Heavy Support options? Do they use a mix, do they use 3 Trygons or go for 9 Fexes? Let me know before I dedicate moar models into the army.

Tyranofex x1 minimum for me.
Biovores I have always gotten mileage from, but most disparage.
Trigon Prime I use regularly.
Carnifex. . .
I think cases can be made for dakkafexes and screamer killers--spods alone or using Onslaught towards enemy lines as a unit.
I have yet to see that work well often, but really have not seen it tried enough to compare. It works, but not sure about point value.

I am looking toward the 1850 range with flexibility for 2000-2500.

I use two Trygons with adrenal in every list. If I have points to fill the third slot I usually put in a Mawloc for the additional distraction from my more vital units. I've toyed with the idea of playing around with an all carnifex/Tervigon list for giggles but at the moment I wouldn't seriously consider it for a competative list.

A Brood of Carnifex can be used well. It generally wants a Tyranid Prime or two attached which can eat into both points and HQ slots.
What I would take is
A) Two T-fex's and a Trygon
B) One T-fex and two Trygons
C) Three Trygons (or maybe two and a Morloc)

No they won't. Kill the Trygon and then kill the Carnifexen: The Carnifex aren't a threat until they can charge, while the Tryon can shoot.

So perhaps throw some ranged weapons on the Carnifexes to make them more of a threat if taken?

So I've heard a lot of people say that Carnifexes suck... take a Trygon instead. However, there's 2 builds I find interesting enough to argue they would work.
1. Brood of 2(3?) With 2 ScyTals, Adrenaline Glands, and Frag Spines. HEavy Assault troops. Pair a Warrior Prime to them with a Bonesword and Lash Whip (He gets T6 against shooting, and in CC Carnifexes get some of the opposing forces reduced to I1.) Back it up with Tervigon support for FNP and Venothropes for cover saves against Krak Missiles, Templates. and the like.
Expensive as hell, but say if you took a pair of those units, back up by a Venomthrope unit, Hive Guard, and Troop Choice Tervigons I feel you'd have an army... but would it be competitive?
2. 2 Broods of 2 with 2 TL Devourers. That's 24 S6 shots to absolutely murder light vehicles, put saves on infantry, and kill Walkers in CC. Back up with Venomthropes or Tervigons if you like...
I don't know Tyranids that well, so is there a unit that can put out that amount of firepower, reliably over the course of the game? Is there a better choice?

So composition one is basically an all purpose unit of Carnies- ones that can shoot and hit in combat if need be.
Second option is a shooty type Carnie brood.
And in all instances, support is key to the survival of the MCs or else they get wasted real quick.
