I was just over in the crusader versus redeemer thread, and discovered an interesting use for the crusader against orks, and was just wondering if this is how it works.
My idea was if you have a trukk loaded with boys, could you use power of the machine spirit to pop the transport with the multimelta atop the land raider, then mow down the occupants with the hurricane bolters and Tl assault cannon? I never thought of it, and never hear of anyone doing it, but the multimelta can (due to potms) technically target a different unit.
Anyone thought of this/done this before/think this is blatantly obvious?

The multimelta can target another weapon than the rest.
As you handle shots sequentially, I see no problem.
Here is the conflict: All shooting from the same unit occurs simultaneously in game terms. This means that the machine spirit should be shooting its target at the same time that crew is shooting theirs and the orc boys wouldn't be a viable target when declaring targets.
