What was the worst thing that has happened to your models?

Mine was last week, I was pulling my GW Army case out of the boot of my car and the latches were off for some reason so bam! 2000 points of death guard all over the soaking wet drive Had to re-green stuff my DP's and lost alot of the spikey bits off my tanks

For me it was after building, pining and painting a Warmachine Man-O-War for 5 hours. Then going into my garage spraying the varnish on the model. Then walking up to my room I tripped and the model broke all over the place

It was a sad day

I was 16 and had finally assembled and painted my "Clutch of Fear" dragon from Rhal Partha.. a really big modell out of metal.

It also had Kurt Helborg modelled onto it (i believe it was fourth edition FB and you could play dragons in the empire army).

Well i carried my dragon into the hobby store i used to frequent and we prepared for the game by setting up our miniatures on the battlefield. After a while the store owner showed up and leaned on the table in a rather uncaring fashion and while doing so lifted the game board several centimetres....
Needless to say, the dragon fell from the table and shattered in all its parts as he hited the floor... i was devastated.

Actually so devastated i still remember it and it was the first thing that came to my mind as i read the thread title.

I hope no one of you does ever have to suffer such a tragedy .

Cheers all and good times

Did the store owner offer you anything as compensation?

I don't think I've ever had more than one mini break at a time - thankfully fortune has smiled on my hams.

We used to play with some cardboard terrain one of us made, and one of the terrain features was a small bridge between two buildings. Every game, one of the guys had an awful habit of knocking the bridge over ever turn. Of course this happened when I had my devastator squad on it, including the awful old metal/plastic hybrid heavy bolter. That guy has been broken a dozen times, easily.

You try magnetizing that enormous hunk of metal!

That heavy bolter has since been shelved, as he was part of an old army. He has peace now

Back in the mid 90's a guy I worked with who was an outstanding painter, had his carrying case full of man-o-war ships bust open when putting the case in his car. The amount of shattered masts was out of control. I can only liken the experience to seeing a man at a funeral holding back tears. I mean this guy had just about every thing available at the time and shredded about 90 masts.

Personally aside from knocking a figure off my work bench or tipping one over during a game, I've never really had a horror story involving a big mini or tank fall off a table or anything, though there was one time I was going to enter something into one of the local gaming convention painting contests and when I reached for a spray of gloss coat I wasn't paying attention and used black primer and destroyed about 20 hours of work in 10 seconds.

Well, while technically not an accident, the worst thing to happen to any of my models was Hurricane Katrina.
I lost 3 and a half armies in the storm...of course I also lost everything else in the house as well, including the house itself.

Wasn't me but my friend plays guard & was taking his valk out of the case. I swear the 4 of us (doubles game) watched in slow motion as he tripped on a chain & the valk fell. It nailed the edge of the table then the table leg and broke into almost every piece imaginable.

He had a cheery attitude about it though as he said "Well now I can re-do the shading on the inside like I wanted" (Huge detail nut) So we all had a good laugh & let him play with a stand that had a "ghost ship" on it lol.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

I was painting on the toilet and I dropped my Khorne Lord in the toilet water. I just flushed it. No reason to stick my hand in the toilet.

It is solely out of morbid curiosity that I ask...but why were you painting on the toilet?

I wasn't using the toilet . I was just sitting on it for good posture. The water was clear, but still..Not worth it. I've got a TV dinner tray that I use next to the toilet. Hard to explain.

A budy of mine used to ride his bike to the local gameing store. He hasn't since he dropped 2000 pts of space wolves in the middle of a busy intersection as the GW case clip failed as he went over a bump. The termies storm shield 3+ invul apparently doesn't work against car tires. :(

I was in my friends car going to GW, and I had put my case of Cadians in the truck.

When we got there I was casually talking and opened the trunk, my GW somehow landed vertically leaning against the trunk of his Focus (I think is the SUV), and out came my basilisk, and a bunch of guardsmen.

Its safe to say the basilisk was destroyed, most the guardsmen survived it though.

(No i didn't carelessly place it, I put it face down in the back.)

Every model broken, I was heart broken for weeks and it took me 4 days to re-glue and touch up every figure..

10,000 pts Black Legion
2,000 pts Traitor Catchian Guard (1067th).

I was painting over my pallet which had a lot of black paint in it and the model slipped. Luckily, I was smart and quickly dunked it under water and it became so fluid, it 'washed' off.

Also probably my worst break. Had just finished with painting and sealing, went to the next room to show him off and immediately dropped him from about five feet high on the hand-off.

Me: "Well, I guess you'll just have to take my work for it, he looked pretty good."

I was playing Fantasy; my Orcs and Goblins against a young players Bretonnians.

My Wyvern has just trashed his Bowmen completely when he got into a major strop, threw out his arm to wave away the rest of his army and in the process hurled my Wyvern across the room. It hit the wall and wasn't so pretty after that, the boy looked in horror and ran off.

His Mum came later to pick up his stuff.

I then spent a few days nursing the Wyvern back to health with lots of pins and expoxy. The next week I went back to the club and had a box with a note on it to say sorry; it was a brand new Wyvern. Result!

If I am not in my room, is it still my room?

If I ever broke somones model, no matter how big or small, I would buy them a new one to replace it.

Behind you

My old ezekiel had a similar accident, I was walking home from GW in Exeter, (1994) and had all my force packed away, but ezekiel didn't have a place, so I held him all the way from games workshop to the house (about 3 miles or so) then just 100 meters from the house, tripped and dropped him in the middle of the road. I bent over to pick it up, saw the car coming and ran to the side of the road, hoping the tire would miss.

CRACK, both tires ran over the poor guy, pulverising his sword, and completely shattering the back banner. The car stopped, and the guy asked me what it was, went back to the store, and bought me another ezekiel. I was so horror stricken I didn't open the blister pack til last month. (cause I've been doing bulk 40K atm).

Painted that well and with that much care at my young age, that I just was traumatized about it.
