So im a nooby and I bought the AoBR set since the guy in the shop told me to - he then told me to buy the battleforce and a devastator squad but since I found this forum it would appear that - the termies in AoBR are rubbish, the assault marines in the BF should be left on the shelf aswell as the dev squad - my buddies told me I should just use them for painting experience

Was this a case of my own dumbassness on the subject or did GW just see another sucker? lol

The guy at GW was just trying to sell you things - that's his job, after all.

However, all the units you mentioned are just fine. The Terminators in Black Reach are fine - just give them an assault cannon (which you can buy from a bits retailer) and they're a solid unit. Assault Marines are actually pretty decent, especially if you can get them up to 10 men. The Dev squad box is not so much for actually making a devastator squad, but so you can outfit Marines in tactical squads with better heavy weapons than rocket launchers.

Just about everything in the Marine range has a use. The only true garbage unit in the Marine codex is the Legion of the Damned, and you'll probably hear one or two people defending them too.

Brother SRM has it right. Devs I find most people just split the heavy weapons into their tac squads & as a tau player, I really dislike seeing a 10 man assault squad accompanied by a Chaplain *shudder* fearless assault marines who will re-roll to hit 1st round, thats a huge threat to shooty armies.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

The models are not that bad imho.
The termies are okay. They will get you up and running with some figures to play with, so you need not feel fleeced in any way

I bought the Marines compenents for £16 inc postage on ebay and while they could be better models I ain't complaining.
fwiw It was recommended to me by a vet Dakkite when I first joined Dakka as a good way to bulk out the army.

TBH I wouldn't feel bad about getting the set as a newb
You have a rule book, some SM's the templates and can swap/sell the orcs to help fund more SM's.

Check out stuff on ebay and good luck

No. He was trying to sell you stuff Jerk. He told me that too.

When I bought AoBR he asked if I wanted to buy the Battleforce with it. I was like" Um...No? wtf do I look like? Do you really think I have an extra 95$?"

He said nothing and handed me my receipt.

The Macragge Set was complete Garbage, IMO. It came with some good genestealers, but the model count was way too low.The terrain was about the only good part of the set, even though it's too low to give good cover.

My marines were put together a bit before the current line, but I think you want the dev squad box. You probably won't field it as a dev squad, since they're expensive in 5th and you generally don't want mixed weapons. But the plastic tac squads only come with missile launchers, so having the dev squad lets you get a variety of heavy weapons for your squads. Going by GWs site, you pay less than the cost of 3 single heavy weapon marines to get 8 heavy weapons, 4 marines to mount them on, and a sergeant.
