So I got into this hobby for the painting and modeling aspect, but since some of my friends are starting to buy armies, I am thinking about actually playing. Having never really played a game (though I have watched some) I have come up with this list for my guard. I am not looking to win any tourneys, just want a list that I wont get steam rolled with. Does this list look like something I could do alright with in friendly games. Winning isnt as important as having fun, but I dont want to just get steamrolled either.

Too many Leman Russes....
You have a lot of points tied up in 5 tanks that can only shoot at 2 different things. They are also decent at best at anti-tank seeing as how they are blasts and will more then likely scatter.
Also your chimeras are pretty vulnerable, with most weapons such as AC, Lascannons, and the like having a small chance of killing the Russes, they'll shoot at the chimeras. So get yourself some moar!
And a Lord Commisar is not as flexible or as damaging as a CCS.

I say switch out lord commissar for CCS with special weapons and try to rearrange the russes

Looks good! Though except for the plasma vets, might as well give them all shotguns. You may want to assault with IG someday, like say you really want that Long Fang squad dead.

I suppose I could put the shotguns with the plasma guys instead (I only have 10 shotguns, I am using Krieg models so they are sadly expensive.)
Thanks for the comments however, hopefully I will be able to put up a good fight for my friends

Shotguns with the plasma guns make little sense sadly, lasguns share the same profile (rapid fire), meltaguns and shotties share the same profile. (assault)
If you fire the plasmaguns and fire the shotguns then you can't assault. Not like that's a major thing but it is still worth noting. And same with plasma guns, the lasguns wil allow you to reach out further.

I think he misread your post, ghost. Your sentence was a little convoluted  . You've explained it well now, though...
I would drop one sent and get two more PG's for the CCS. Otherwise looks like a fairly solid mechvet list.

You're getting closer.
I'd drop either one of the manticores or one of the russes and turn the other one into whichever type you now have more of (so 3 mants or 3 russes, not 2 and 2).
Then drop the worthless multilasers and either take 2 hellhounds or 2 more mechvet squads.
