Salutations Dakka!!
Long time lurker, first time poster, here.
A bit of history...I began playing 40K back in the early 90's during the RT days. My first "army" was a Harlequin Troupe back when the "Compendium" allowed for such, and you could buy the lead box set for a reasonable price, and it had all one needed to field a force. To this day I still have a soft spot for the Eldar, and Harlies in particular, though I found myself a bit stifled and rather envious of my good pal that was playing "Blood Axe" Orks...and all the fun he was having with conversions, malfunction cards, and that "Ere We Go!" book. So, I sold my 'quins to his younger brother (who played Squats), and began a Snakebite army. I adored them, and to this day I have no idea how I spent so much money back then, not really having a job and all...Murauder Miniatures conversions, Epicast Stompa, etc.. Time went on, and things changed...my pals slowly got out of the hobby, I started dating, working, paying bills, 2nd edition came out and I was infuriated that my beloved Snakebite were relegated to becoming Goffs with a different color scheme, codex creep, and rising cost of the hobby (this was when GW switched to a pewter base, given the lead lawsuits other companies were suffering). I shelved my minis, and moved on with life.
Fifteen years later...no RPG's, no wargames...
Then a good pal within my friend circle began playing DoW, and really got into the fluff. He decided to jump into the hobby by starting a Tau army. He began to petition myself, and another pal within the circle (who used to play around the same time as I), to resurrect our aged armies, and join him in the hobby. Upon looking, I found that despite all that had happened over the years, relationships, breakups, moving, comic collection lost, etc....my Snakebite Orks were all still with me, albeit in moderate disrepair (even the Epicast Stompa). My other pal realized the same (Marines & Eldar). So we jumped back in. Two years later, my Snakebite have been updated to 5th (and now at the 8000 point range), and I have a 2000 point Necron army as a second. Both the other guys have at least one extra army, if not two, and our wee group is growing.
That's the abridged version...
Personally, I enjoy all aspects of our hobby, gaming, fluff, and especially modeling, and painting. As a former Art student (I'm a Chef now), I really enjoy the creative aspect of painting.
So yeah...I'm looking forward to posting, and sharing some of my stuff with the community, and hopefully contributing to it. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you on da boardz..
