So I am about to go over seas for 6 months and was thinking about starting a IG army. I would like to have 3 Valkyries 3 Leman's and just feel the rest in with Chimeras.
What weapons should I run on the Valkyries and Leman's, HQ choices, and troop units should I run? Any help to get me started would be grate!

Would a single Manticore be worth taking?

Manticores are always welcome. Also 3 valks and 3 leman russ (standard I assume) is leaving a large gap for anti tank. Take one or two vendettas to even it out, they are worth every penny and every point.

LOL I really dont know what kind of leman I should run. Ok well I know next to nothing about IG and not really sure the pros and come on talking a vendetta over a valk. LOL all I know is the big flying model likes to blow up my battlewagons.

Vendettas are pretty nasty. great at popping tanks. for a non heavy tank hunting russ, exterminators with lascannons can shut down a mech army fairly well. or hydras

Well your first step should be buying the codex. That'll get you to some sort of understanding between the variants of each vehicle.
Seeing as how you're already paying a lot for 3 Russes (points wise) I'd go with the standard Leman Russ with a battle cannon. LR Demolishers, or executioners are worthwhile too, but a bit more expensive (especially with sponsons) and shorter ranged. I have to agree that vendettas are worth it. 3 TL lascannon shots are guaranteed to hurt something.
HQ should be a CCS with meltas or plasma guns (Take advantage of their better than average shooting!)
Troops - Veterans with meltas should go into the Valks/Vendettas. Blobbed Infantry squads with power weapons Al'Rahem and a Priest is a safe bet. They can hold objectives and will put up a fight against most cc squads.

I just got my hands the codex about a hour ago. The only thing I am really set on at this point is the gun ships.
What would you see in your average air calv list? Also I did not think it was a good idea to have foot units in a mech list?

Well obviously with the transports you'll probably have melta/plasma vets. Foot unit can be good but maybe in a chimera.

If you're looking for air cav and armored, a 1750 points list should basically be 3 LRD's with hull heavy flamers, and 4 vendettas full of plasma, at least, as much as I could guess.
