Hello, Dakkaites!
I've only read a couple of books from BL, and I'd like to humbly ask for your opinions about which you judge the best (both in style and adherence to the setting, even if I don't dislike a little "poetical licenses"), apart from the extraordinary works from C.S.Goto, and would advise me to read...

I like to know too. I have a problem with some BL books being to descriptive leaving not much to imagination.

Any of the Ciaphas Cain novels by Sandy Mitchell. They are humorous and pay respect to the canon of 40k.

One bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other.

A deaf police man heard the noise
And came to arrest the two dead boys
Don't believe this story's true?
Ask the blind man he saw it too.

In my opinion the Eisenhorn omnibus by Dan Abnett is fantastic, probably my favourite book from the BL.

Start the Gaunt's Ghosts saga from the beginning. ( Dan Abnett is Top Notch) Great Character development, awsome battles, great twists and each storey leads into and has profound effects on future books.
Also check out Titanicus and Double Eagle, (Abnett again).

Agreed.

Everyone seems to be in love with Gaunts Ghost (and it is a very good series) but the Eisenhorn omnibus is probably one of the best sci fi books I've ever read.

The Eisenhorn books, Descent of Angels, the Ravenor books, and Nemesis were all very good books, in my opinion.

Ciaphas Cain, it doesn't take itself seriously and it provides some serious laughs

Quite refreshing to have a light-hearted comedic take on the 40k universe: In yer traditional BL book if a Commissar sees a Genestealer he'll think "filthy Xenos! KILL IT FOR THE EMPRAH!" Ciaphas will think "Oh not again.. frak this I'm out of here, oh dagnabbit the men are watching... best pretend to be heroic."

I've enjoyed both of the big Space Wolves books. They're fun stories that I find deep enough to be interesting and light enough to be entertaining.

I've read Path of the Warrior, it's a good book, explains a lot about Eldar craftworld life I think, Emperor's Mercy by Henry Zou I think, also good, and Redemption Corps, which I wasn't as fond of for some reason.

Are the Horus Heresy series of books any good?

Horus Heresy are OK books, I really like the "ancient feel" they've got. People sometimes rage how they retcon things and how they are hollow, but it's a good read, at least the first three. I went as far as Fulrim now and it felt a bit of a drag, but that's cause I think Emperor's Childrem are lame.

The Grey Knight series was really, really good. Don't know how much of that comes from the translation, as I've read the book in German, which imo, really fits 40k, but there was everything you might like in a space opera - space battles, melee clashes, against all odds fights, and crowning moments of awesome. Really worth checking out.

I cant really recommend the third book in the Ultramarines series, the "Dead Sky, Dark Sun" or whatever its caled in English. It requires really a lot of suspension of disbelief, even for a 40k fan.

I was blown away by Blood Pact, but you need to read the rest of the Gaunt's Ghosts books first (all great IMHO)

Sandy Mitchell's plotlines are a little stale but still a great read

And the Ultramarine books by Graham McNeil

As for HH I enjoyed the Luna Wolves books, Flight of the Einstein and Mechanicum (mecha battles ftw)

Yep, I'll second that, Gaunts Ghosts all the way, and they get more and more brutal as they go along. The last few really suprised me with how far he was willing to go with the characters! I also loved the Ultramarine books by Graham McNeil and the Space Wolf stories about Ragnar. Very cool.

Horus Heresy books are all pretty cool, although at this point I am getting a bit tired of reading about the same section from different perspectives. Just get to earth and smach down the Emperor...Sorry Emperor, I didn't mean it!

I agree, which is why I enjoyed the first 5 so much. We were actually advancing the overall story arc

...urrrr... I dunno

I find that anything Graham McNeill writes is usually a safe bet. The guy isn't afraid to kill off main characters if he feels it'll make for good reading, is all I'm saying.
