Eternal Plague

This was the last list I used for my Nurgle CSM Army:

HQ:
Daemon Prince with Wings, Mark of Nurgle, Warptime-175 points
Daemon Prince with Wings, Mark of Nurgle, Warptime-175 points
Troops:
7 Plague Marines- Plague Champion with Powerfist, Meltabomb, 2 Melta Guns- Rhino Transport-261 points
6 Plague Marines- Plague Champion with Powerfist, Meltabomb, 2 Melta Guns- Rhino Transport-238 points
6 Plague Marines- Plague Champion with Meltabomb, 2 Plasma Guns- Rhino Transport-223 points
6 Plague Marines- Plague Champion with Meltabomb, 2 Plasma Guns- Rhino Transport-223 points
Heavy Support-
Defiler-150 points
Defiler-150 points
Defiler-150 points
Greater Daemon- 100 points

Total- 1845 points

As you can see, the Heavy Slot is primarily Defilers through and through.

Now I want to reconfigure the list a bit. Here was what I was thinking:

Remove two Defilers and the Greater Daemon-

Add in 3 Obliterators and a Land Raider. Pointwise, the swap is pretty close in terms of numbers lost and gained, as the removal of a Plague Marine or two will even out the total costs.

Now I have some versatility, but lose some armor. What do you think? Anything else within the list needs a change?

What else do people use for their CSM Heavy Slots?

3 defilers works GREAT, but I found myself struggling to pop transports and light armor like Dreads (Basically had to rely on plasma guns or the BC shot, which felt like a waste and was pretty dodgey anyway).

My current mix for heavies is 2 Defilers and a 3 pack of Oblits. That definitely feels like the right mix. Drop one Defiler and then scrounge the 75 points you need for the 3rd oblit, maybe dropping the GD (although I love them dearly) and adding another plague.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Observations on complex unit wound allocation: If you're feeling screwed, your opponent is probably doing it right.

3 Defilers was a good idea, but it leaves much to be desired when I don't need 3 Defilers scattering their templates all over the place. :p And if a redundant idea won't work, I would want a bit more versatility in trying to win a game.

Have you tried a Land Raider in the list 1-UP?

Well... I advise you drop all 3 defilers and take 9 Obliterators. DPs look fine, but Drop the GD. Take more PMs

Seriously, your list looks good. Remember you can take a LR as a dedicated transport for terminators but you have none so I'll shut up.

I was thinking of using a Land Raider in the stead of a Rhino and fill it with Khorne Beserkers, but call them Nurgle Beserkers instead.

I don't know about using the Landraider. Chaos LR's are waaaaay overcosted. No PotMS no thank you. Plus, it's not like you are rushing into assault. I run a Death Guard army and at 1500 have:

1 Predator- 2x Lascannon, 1x Autocannon- 135
2x Obliterators- 150
1x Demonically possessed Vindicator- 145

Overall, I really like the setup. The Predator is excellent for light transport popping and can sit back. The Oblits can deep strike or advance with my army. The vindi provides a nice fire magnet and a sweet ordinance blast.

I have tried dual Pred and dual vindicators and came away unimpressed. It's hard to rely on Vindicators as a primary source of transport popping or MC wounding because of short range, scatter, and the fact that it is only one shot. 2 vindis attract alot of fire but ultimately be over kill. Two Preds didn't work because they are very prone to deep strikers or back door table bandits. Overall, Predators lose effectiveness after the first 2 turns as well.

As much as I didn't want to cave to the pressure, Oblits are really, really good. They are expensive, but the versatility is amazing. With the slow advance of the rest of my army, they can contribute both at a range early and also later at close range with twin linked assault weapons. They can't be shaken or stunned and can hold their own against some with powerfists. Overall, I am experimenting with 2 units of 2 for these reasons.
