I want to start a Close Combat oriented marine list - traitor or otherwise. As far as MEQ's go Im looking at either Khorne or BA's. I dont want to do a Wolf army till a better Thunderwolf figure comes out.

I like the deepstriking Landraiders and I just like Khorne in general. Does anyone have any experience with BA land raiders?

I use one from time to time. works well most of the time, but i do not deep strike it, i like my guns from turn 1

I find the DS gimmicky, and most of the time it's pretty risky.

Besides the way I deploy my two land raiders, I typically hide my tac marines in rhinos behind them, and then, depending on the enemy, I either kite the enemy or just run right up and smack them in the face.

Yes, and if you scatter into terrain you could have an immobile or lost LR.

with the BA put a LR or 2 in, hide 2 or 3 rhinos behind em with assault squads, and you are good to go.

don't use tac squads as BA they are kind of a waste of points.

Eh, I know assault marines are cheaper, but I could really use the heavy weapons. Their heavy weapons make up a significant part of my long range firepower. And it's nice to have bolters when all you're doing is sitting on the objective.

A friend of mine runs SW with no cav, and no transports, competitively and does very, very well with them.

the received wisdom on deep striking land raiders is that they arent good. I tend to agree for a lot of reasons. expensive, prone to mishap, cant assault the turn you show, dropping right in front of meltaguns, might not show till late....

as far as khorne if you run a mixed demon/marine cult with skarbrand giving everyone preferred enemy you can kill anything you can catch with these guys, though catching it can be a challenge. they arent that fast. Its something flavorful and uncommon you could do. not 100% legal but w/e alot of people dont care. mono cults get respect.

BA LR's are cheaper than Khorne ones, with the BA assault marines inside.

You could always do Khornate marines counts as space wolves, then use juggernauts for thunderwolves etc, great modeling opportunities.

Deepstriking an LR is EXTREMELY risky. But BA do do jump packs very well, khorne needs transports, and transports means no assaulting. Generally a horde of beserkers isnt hard to take down, and they have problems with anti tank.
