Okay, Flinty helped plant the seed on this one of sorts.
if you're going to spend 80 on a Penial troops, wht not spend 5 more pointson a Vet squad with 3 GL? you gain 1 BS point to a 4(plus 3 st 6 ap 4 shots). but go from LD 8 to 7 on the basic trooper.
now if you where going for more than 1 squad, a PCS with 2+ PIS would be the better option. but if you just need 1 squad or only have 80-100 points to spend, the Vets might be worth the investment.

thoughts?

I use platoon infantry squads.

If I needed wrap and had 100 points left over, I'd get 2 infantry squads

But don't forget you either already have to have a platoon to add two more squads onto, or you have to buy an entire new platoon, along with the cost of a PCS.

The PCS is among the best buys in the codex. They are a 5-man SWS that can take 4 special weapons, and has a Ld8 Officer that can issue an order.

Unless I'm planning on blobbing them all en masse, if I'm taking 4 infantry squads, the option for a second PCS is bonus.

well, it's not worth BUYING anything to wrap tanks, so really, the thing is that you use whatever you have nearby. Buy stuff for the sake of buying it, and then use some of it as bubblewrap if you've got nothing better to do with it.

Well, that's my point. if i didn't have the points to buy a PCS w/ 2 PIS, which of the two mentioned squads would you guys use?
i agree completely on the awesomeness of the PCS. and the PIS would be the cheapest form of BW.

If bubblewrap is specifically your goal, I'd go for two PIS over a single veteran squad. Two squads that can be fielded separately or combined are better than one. Veterans IMO are our more aggressive units.

Veterans are not stubborn. And you normally waste efficient short range fire if you use them as cannonfodder-shield.
If you want to stay put and shoot and use the unit only for bubbling, take a platoon. The PCS is indeed a nice flaming unit. You should consider that.

I deliberately worked a min-sized platoon into my list specifically to have sacrificial units.

The best way is to throw in a group of conscripts onto a platoon that you're already bringing.

Once again, though, buying stuff just for the purpose of bubblewrapping is folly.

This would add at least 80 points of non fighting material to an already existing bubblewrap
And it would be a unit that would totally fail against tanks so you have to keep a morale strong unit behind.

but it would be able to wrap at least a couple of vehicles making it more effective when you have several.

But it's still moot as, regardless of what you're taking, if you take stuff for bubblewrap you're spending points on a unit that does nothing regardless of how many tanks you want to wrap.

well blob infantry can defend itself pretty good against assaults.

But I agree, if you want to play defensive, take a platoon and use a blob in the first rank. I f you dont use platoon the enemy should bubble wrap not you...
