I'm kind of thinking of picking up a few Sisters of Battle blisters that have been endlessly tempting me from the blister rack. I guess what I'd like to know is; How broken are Witch Hunters in 5th edition considering they haven't been updated in so long? I hear rumors of them being updated "soon" but we'll see how that pans out. If anyone who plays/plays against Witch Hunters on a regular basis would like to leave a tid bit of info or some info from a battle report I'd really appreciate it. Is it worth even trying to assemble a small army?

I've HEARD that they are, while not top tier, are still solid.

For 11 pts a woman, you get BS4 and the option for 2 meltaguns, a HF and a flamer. And they're very hard to shift off objectives because they get access to a piece of wargear that, for all intents and purposes, make them stubborn.

So go ahead and collect them, be prepared for a good price tag though...

Not many people play them. They've got awesome equipment and some cool rules though. Being melta and flamer heavy means they also fit in really well in the current atmosphere of the game.

Witch Hunters are very much still a viable army. While very limited on long range firepower most of their options and the whole acts of faith make them very hard to want to get anywhere near on the tabletop. Take for instance the act of faith that makes all wounding hits of a 6 on d6 ap1. Then take a squad with 4 flamers and dump them on someones head and use that act. things like that make them very much usable, but as noted above because GW discontinued most of the special units and even the squad box of sisters the price tag is quite up there.

Another Act of Faith I think is very useful is the one that increases your initiative, combine that with a cannoness with her Blessed Weapon and you got a hammer. In heels.

They are still a good army to use. When used properly any army works well. Like stated above they do lack long range punch but are good at short and medium gun fights especially. They're a power armor horde for the price. I like the look and the diversity from the same old same old marine players.

I love how still grimdark they are, very few 5th armies retain that. Orks are too happy, none of the space marine armies do (not vanilla, not puppies, not vampires), tyranids do it well.

Point being they still have a bit of that slightly over-zealous imperial feel them, and I LOVE how they can absolutely spam bolters, heavy bolters, storm bolters, meltas, multimeltes, flamers and heavy flamers. What more could an army want.

Pretty much where I was a few years ago starting an army.

I was torn between Orks, Witch Hunters and 13th Company.

Now, I've got over 5K of Orks done and I'm slowly getting my Witch Hunters going.

The models are generally nice even though it's bee quite a while since they were cast. The rules still work fine aside from the obvious oddities you run into when pairing older books with newer rules (Unlimited Range Psychic Hoods, Force Weapons which get around Eternal Warrior, Upgrades that do nothing, really, really angry units and transports that are generally more expensive than the standard today). Bottom line, they're an interesting army and while the models may not be everyone's cup of tea, they are fairly nice.
