got this list off a site. I really wanted to start with kara sloan. The whole sniper thing is really appealing

Reinholdt

Drop Laddermore and a stormsmith and pick up Squire and the Black 13th.

Laddermore is about 1-2 points overcosted and not that strong of a melee threat by herself. Squire gives Kara a much needed 7th point of focus for being able to upkeep refuge, shoot, and power both jacks. The Black 13th gives you reliable anti-stealth since you don't have any right now aside from keeping Kara stationary (bad idea). Yes the smiths can ignore stealth, but an unboostable pow 10 is not something to bank on.

I agree, Laddermore is a bit too pricey for a small list like that. Rule of thumb is that you want to hold off using cav until you get to 35+ pts. Also, most of the Dragoon solos (Laddermore, Gravus, etc.) are only worth their points if they are supporting the units they are assigned to help (Storm Lances, Vengers, etc.)
Reason is, if you are playing a small point list (15-25 points), and it isn't mangled metal, you want to get as much bang for your buck as you can. Pretty much you want to focus on 3 factors.
1. Augmenting your caster's abilities (most attachments or solos that function in this way are 2 points or less)
2. Supporting your 'jacks (even outside of Mangled Metal, your 'jacks are still your bread and butter at this level)
3. Shoring up weak spots (Use cheap units or models that give you capabilities you don't otherwise have)

I did note one potential problem with Ronin's advice, though I don't play Cygnar or Mercs: Does Reinholdt count as a Warcaster Attachment? If so, you cannot take both him and the Squire. If I'm right, and you need to choose, pick the Squire. Also, as much as a Die-Hard menite player like me hates to admit it, the Black 13th is NASTY. Definitely stick with them.

Nope, Reinholdt is just a merc solo. I would say that Sloan gets more out of him than Squire in 15 pts games, the ability to shoot one more time with that big gun is really nice, Sloan doesn't get much other use from squire than the extra focus.

Sorry i don't know the point costs. The list looks good though. Thanks guys. I kind of feel that i could use a better unit than the squire though. Is the extra 2 inch command+1 focus really worth it ?

Absolutely. The extra focus allows her to fuel her 'jacks that much more. Think of it as the charger receiving his double-boost ability for free. That greatly increases his threat to the enemy.

Squire's are almost an auto include (Along with Journeyman).

Your updated 15 point army looks pretty sweet, and is great for caster assassination

at 15 points it depends on your strategy if you really need the squire. The charger is cheap to boost and you should have more than enough to support your defender. If you cast your upkeep spells early (and depending on how many upkeeps spells you are going to use) than you might not need the +1 focus. Play it for a bit and if it seems like you aren't using the extra focus than drop him and put in some other solo. I don't use Sloan, but glancing at her stats it looks like 12thRonin understands what she excels at and your new list looks pretty solid.

Yeah, I've run her a lot. She's not the nastiest but small games like this where it's easy to punch a hole or get an angle, she'll drop about any warcaster in the game in a turn. Warlocks are tricky for her though if they have a couple points of fury left over.
