What's the guideline here? I see almost everyone gives them pupils, but in the fluff is it ever said that they don't have monochrome eyes?

Short Answer: Paint them however you like.

Long Answer: Way back in the early days they were painted (and featured in GW artwork) similar to human eyes. Later some artist drew elves with almond shaped, upturned, monochromatic, inhuman eyes. Since then some people started painting them monochromatic. Again it is up to you.

Gathering the Informations.

Personally...I prefer the monochromatic. It looks more ethereal, more otherwordly...more fay, even.

Which is what Elves are after all.

I remember reading that elves that have been to the Chaos Wastes have their eyes turn all black.

I paint almost all elven eyes as black with a white dot as reflected light. Looks top notch and is alot easier.

Most people paint elven eyes as large cartoony anime looking things. Usually a result of overdoing the whites.
