Here are some pictures of my current progress with my Tau army. I have a 1000pt tournament this saturday, and hopefully it will be my first tournament with a fully table ready painted army. Just have to finish a unit of Kroot for then.

In the meantime, check out some of my painted models: (also viewable at http://www.empireoftheeasternfringe.blogspot.com)

Pathfinders:

Still have to do highlighting for the edges and then put on water transfers but at least they're table ready now. Let me know what you think. I'll post some pictures of a piranha I finished last week, and my Kroot unit shortly.

What is the brown that you used?

For the main brown areas I used Bestial Brown. For the linework i used the Deneb Brown wash/ink. Thanks for the kind comments!

Here's a Crisis Suit Commander "Fireknife" build. Color scheme is Skeleton Bone Army Painter Spray (same as Citadel Bleached Bone), Bestial Brown, Skull White highlights and Burnished Gold for "sensor/antenna" areas. The exposed metal in the legs, elbows and thrusters used Chaos Black with a drybrushing of Codex Grey overtop. For the Red lenses I used Red Gore, Blood Red, Blazing Orange and Skull White specular highlight.

Here are some picts of my Tau Piranha completed in time for a tournament this past saturday (Sept 4 2010). Also got a unit of Kroot finished in time, so this was the first time I had a fully painted army to play. BTW I got 1st place in the tournament but that was soured by some bitterpants whiners saying the tournament was only a "painting contest". It was only the second tournament I was in but apparently the scoring was different than most tournaments. One third of the score weight went to painting, another third to sportsmanship and the final third was your win/loss ratio (i was 1-1-1). Thats why one guy was whining at the end saying it wasn't a tournament but a "painting contest". Oh well, I won either way . Originally the tournament was supposed to be 10 people but 4 dropped out leaving only 6 people so it wasn't a big tournament obviously. Nothing to brag too much about (or complain too much about). Anyway, comments are welcome as always:

It's all very clean painting but is just really flat and monotone. Is their anyway you can paint some designs of things on it to make it pop a little better?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Not gonna put "designs" or camo patterns or anything. I like Tau (and Eldar) to have smooth clean lines uncluttered with too much battle damage, camo etc. Keep in mind I still have to highlight all my "completed" models. See the drones on the piranha and it will be similar to that except using half bleached bone and half skull white instead of full skull white. Also I plan on putting some decals on etc.... Sorry guess I gave the wrong impression that these were finished. Once I get about 1500-2000pts painted I'm gonna highlight everything in one batch and slap on the decals.

Though the same flat look will stay, dont really like Tau with alot (or any) battle damage on them for some reason, just personal taste i guess. I dont like dry brushing on tau for some reason too.... hmmmm

Thanks for comments!

Nice job on your models. Really like the poses you've done with your Pathfinders and the colour scheme of the army. Keep the pics coming!

Lovely paint job! I don't think they need something extra to "pop" Tau are supost to be clean and futuristic.

Here are a few images of my Kroot. Used a Catachan Green base for these. More details at my blog :

Sorry the pictures aren't that great, experimented with a Macro lense but the depth of field was way too shallow....

Here are some picts of my Firewarrior squad. Again its a Bleached Bone based with Bestial Brown and Scorched Brown areas. The blue skin areas are Shadow Grey with Space Wolves Grey highlighting. For the red bits (eyes and shoulder insignia) I used Scab Red (or was it Red Gore? I always confuse the two, they're very similar) with Blood Red as the highlight.

Here's a first pict of my painted Crisis Suits. Color scheme is more of the same (see earlier posts). For these guys i use the magnetic base instead of the crappy clear ones GW gives you. Its using a construction toy set called MAGZ. The main pedestal portion has magnets on either end and I just delicately screwed in a wood screw to the main pedestal hole on the actual suit. Got sooooo tired of them snapping off the GW clear bases. Take a look.
