So I am playing in a tourny with comp scoring (actually, a few of them) and was wondering what peoples feelings on this lord are.

I was looking, and while a powerful caster, he seems to be more versatile then broken. He has a wide variety of spells, and a decent statline (outside of close combat). He is somewhat vulnerable to certain spells and war machines.

Im wondering how people feel about him, and if they would comp a list running him. I Figure without the blue scribes there to feed him tons of extra power dice, he is actually fairly balanced.

I know it also depends on the rest of the list, but he is about it as far as super stuff goes, the rest is just blocks of daemons led by heralds. I would not be running the blue scribes, as i believe thats one of the main reasons kairos is broken.

What does dakka think?

Edit: the first tourny especially is at my FLGS and among friends, where you get a 1,2,3,4. Each number 4 being favorite game to play, 1 being least favorite.

He gets a +6 to casting, and knows 14 spells (8 of which you can pick-and-choose, and the rest from the very good Lore of Tzeentch). You're going to take a comp hit in any environment that includes comp.

But then, you're playing Daemons. Even though they aren't quite as crazy as in 7e, people are still knee-jerking. I was hoping to be able to play mine without getting "that look" every time I put them on the table, but the 'Ard Boyz last weekend suggests otherwise. Maybe another year will see the Lizards & Skaven climb high enough that we can summon the unholy hordes of the Warp, without getting glared at.

(Personally, I think Teclis is more dangerous w/the free irresistables, but Teclis should take a comp hit, too.)

I agree that teclis is way more rediculous than kairos, and he is way cheaper.

I know i would probly take a comp hit, im just wondering how bad.

Honestly a kitted out slann with rumination is worse then Kairos, getting a free dice for every spell blows the +2 to cast out of the water. 16ish % of the time its worse, 16 ish percent of the time its equal, the other 65ish percent of the time its better. Not to mention redirecting the miscast.

Especially since for the spells with the casting values of 3,7,6, and 8 in the lore of tzeencht you still have to 2 dice or risk ending kairos casting.

I just figure without the blue scribes garunteeing him an extra 3-4 dice a turn he isnt that broken.

A fully kitted out slann can
Be only hit by magic (very strong defense)
Add a dice to every spell (easily better than +2 to cast)
Have loremaster (not nearly as good as pick 8 spells, but still decent)
Make another caster ignore 6's (one of the best magical defenses in the game)
redirect his first miscast
4+ ward save
495 points

Kairos
Can only be wounded on a 3+ (meh, improves his odds vs Str7 or better a smidge)
Can reroll one D6 per player turn (ok this is pretty sick, especially if you fail a ward save vs a cannon)
+2 to casting (nice, but pales in comparison to rumination)
Loremaster for tzeentch, and picks 8 other spells, but can only cast 4 per turn
625 Points

and without the blue scribes, he is pretty power dice hungry

IMO as long as having Kairos fits the theme of the army, for example you have a large portion of your army being Tzeentch, then I doubt you'll take a huge comp hit, you may lose a few points in people seeing him and going 'oh no it's Kairos, what ami going to do', but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. However if most of the army is Khorne, Slaanesh or Nurgle, then you may recieve a arger hit

I think the impression you'd get (regardless of whether it's grounded in actual fact or not) is that he's unfair, even if you're using him in a manner that is more "toned down". Honestly, it would probably be my "1" army (least favorite to play) in most settings...

Most Australian tournaments don't allow 'named' characters so it's hard to say, actually... I've never played in one that did allow them, actually.
