CADIA XLVII
For The Emperor. For the Lord Castellan. For Cadia.
Summary:
My goal is to take my roughly 1,500 points of painted models, and convert them into a fully painted 2,500 point army by the end of the month. By Halloween I hope to have finished a full Apocalypse-scale force of at least 4,000 points.
Project Background:
I first started collecting my army over a decade ago, during the early days of 3rd Edition. Back then, I was more into the hobby / fluff side of things, and I only played with painted models. Since I have never been a speed painter, my army grew
very slowly. First, a 500 point force saw action during the Third War for Armageddon supporting other Imperial forces. During the Eye of Terror campaign, I commanded a 1,500 point army. By the end of 2003, I had a fully-painted 1,850 point army.
Then real life got in the way. I took a long hiatus and skipped 4th Edition. Life is busier than it used to be, and my current store (the excellent
Game Kastle) has no painting requirement for any of their events. These factors, combined with the radical changes of the new Imperial Guard codex mean that my army is in worse shape than it was in 2003, and is only partially painted on the best of days.
It's time to do something about that!
My goal is to finish painting my 2010 'Ard Boyz list by the end of the month. (Better late than never!) Completing this force will leave me with a lot of options that I can bring to
Da Grand Waaagh. This isn't actually all that ambitious of a plan, demanding the completion of only approximately 30 infantry and 10 (mostly assembled) vehicles. Hopefully, I'll finish this part of the project with time to spare, allowing me to get to the real meat of my plan: the completion of a significant Apocalypse army by Halloween.
It is my hope that this blog will serve as a motivational tool.
For the Emperor, and all that.

Current Army Status:
When the new Cadians were released, I already had a significant force of the old metal Cadians. At the time, I made a decision to keep using the old metal models. (
IMO, they look much cooler, and scale better with the ubiquitous Space Marine.) This makes it hard to grow my infantry. (I usually pick up guys used, and have to strip off paint, which is a big hassle.) Fortunately, 5th Edition is all about mechanized lists, so I don't need too many infantry models.
At this point in time, I've picked up a large number of vehicles (mostly at flea markets, although I had to go to Forge World to get the Manticores) but have made little progress painting them. The same is true of my newly grown pool of infantry. This photo shows the current state of my army, save for about a dozen Cadians still soaking in Simple Green.

As you can see, there's a lot of work to be done. To make matters worse, most of the Chimeras are using the old-and-busted hull Heavy Bolters, instead of the new hotness of Heavy Flamers. One of the goals of this project is to magnetize
everything to future-proof my vehicles against any rules changes.
