Hello P&M

So I'd really like to use the Salamander symbol, but in red, for my new SM chapter. (They're already painted, red & white.) How can I go about making/ordering transfers for this symbol? I'd rather make them myself though.

If I want to print them, where can I get the paper? And any other pointers?

I'm aware of companies that do custom transfers, but I though I'd ask here first in case asking to do a modified GW symbol might be an issue. Who do you suggest?

hobby stores in the US sell decal paper. it's mainly there for the model airplane/car and railroad crowd but no reason we can't use it. check out those sections of Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Make sure you get the kind of paper you need for your printer as i think (not sure) there are different kinds (inkjet vs laser printer paper). you'll might also need some decal adhesive (sold next to it usually) to get it to stick well. i've never tried it myself but friends who did told me the adhesive on the paper doesn't always work well.

Ok, that's a good start. I think I'll do some experimenting then. Can't hurt.

If you are lucky and can find someone with an ALPS printer it will make a big difference. Otherwise as people said that paper is good but it will need a varnish coat before using them.

The only person i knew with an ALPS printer who would do stuff for you has now stopped taking commisions sadly. I suppose it would not hurt to drop him a line and metion my screen name:

I've bought the paper and he's right. Different kinds for laser or ink jet. I planned to just fill an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet with copies of GW decals in various sizes. My graphics knowlege however is poop so I haven't figured out how yet. Wanting to do a pair of Alpha Legion hydras blown up to occupy the sides of my Land Raider.

do you have a copier/scanner? just scan in the decals and print it out as an image. test it out on regular paper first to see how big your scanned image will appear on the paper (sometimes there are scaling issues in the process). then just enlarge/shrink the image until it's the correct size you actually want and print on decal paper. you can also cut and paste more of the decals you want instead. (i.e. just cut paste copy -repeat until you get enough alhpha legion decals and none of the other legions you don't want).
