I used to play a Legion of the Damned Squad awhile ago but stpped after they just kept dieing..
I want to know if maybe i wasn't using them right or if they were even worth the point (and money) to use them?
I mean they are basically tactical squad on steroids

Legion o the damned general consensus is they suck bad. How often do you need armour passing weapons to kill a tactical squad anyway?
They are extremely situational, sure their awesome models, but hell they suck bad. 5 more points and you can have TH/SS.
Their relentlessness and deepstrike is good if you want to load them up with multimeltas and meltas, but (and I hate how thousand sons, the chaos equivalent have this) theyre bolters are 100% unbuffed, which is the worst thing EVER!
Fluffwise they can punch through really thick armour, if they had AP3 bolters theyd make a mockery of thousand sons.
Dont use them. Sure their awesome against daemons, but otherwise just bad.

I've played them a couple of times in bigger games (3000+ points), and they've worked well for me. Granted it was only against 2 different players (who played the same army, coincidentally), but both experiences worked well for me.
I use the MG/MM combo, and take a lot of advantage of them being Relentless (a benefit from being Slow and Purposeful). I then give the Damned Sgt a Power Fist and Bolter, and so now I've got a 3+ Invul squad that can fight against any infantry unit and take it's punches really well.
I wouldn't advise playing them in games less than 2500 points though.... They are, unfortunately, really expensive, and are pretty big point sinks in games less than 2500 points, IMO.

I've used them a couple of times. 7 man squad with Power Weapon, PP and Flamer and they certaily proved their worth, taking out Termies and Tactical Marines in CC, but in most circumstances the points could be better spent on other things such as Termies.

They're a pain when they get into CC with your monstrous creatures.
My buddy usually drops them in to melta frag stuff as well.
They're a pretty specialized tool, and unfortunately expensive. I like them, but I agree that they are more of a high-point game sort of squad.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Unbelievably awesome unit.
Really uninspired rules.
I'm going to pick up some models, add some leftover meltaguns, and use them as my Chosen Chaos Space Marines.

Agreeabley, they are some of the most awesome models, but weight of fire gets them killed instantly.

Yeah the MM has done it's fare share when i used them but thats it.. I pop the transport when they drop down, When it comes to my turn after that, if i'm lucky, theres still 1 0r 2 left out of 10 and all they did was kill a transport...
