What direction do you want to take your army? Points?

Orkz eh?

You are not gonna win in CC, you're just not, except maybe against Lootas. So focus on being able to pump out a crap load of shots. Thankfully, Guard do that like no one else. Manticores makes Orkz cry. D3 Str10 Ord, Barrage? Hello! It'll ID pretty much everything in the Ork codex. And being a large blast it is very good at getting a ton of boyz under it's template.

Just beware of the KFF Mek in a BW. He'll throw a wrench in just about everything. Solution? Vendettas seem very nice. Even with a 4+ cover on vehicles, 3 TL-Lascannon shots will kill it with smart positioning on your part.

Actually, just look at my sig. It's Dashofpepper, one of the top ork players, ranting about how bad IG is for him.

A hellhound should help you nicely versus orks. Also try the regimental standard and put a priest with eviscerator in your Command Squad. Reroll close combat misses and the extra close combat punch should help alot. Also load up on artillery and and plenty of infantry squads. You wont be able to match him body for body but with sheer firepower and templates you'll be able to whittle the force down to make it more manageable when they inevitably do hit your lines.

You could also do 50 man infantry blobs. With flamers, a Commisar or two, and a few heavy weapons of choice, not ML or lascannons (ooh you really fried one ork.). And one of the guys has a vox. FRF!SRF! with nearly 40 men will hurt. 30 men will have lasguns (assuming that the Sgt's and the commisar have laspistols)
So 90 shots from lasguns and 6 laspistols. BS3 so 48 shots hit, 16 wounds and 14 dead orks. That is half a mob, before we take into consider heavy weapons and the flamers.

This is patently false.

If you're going for a shooty vehicle + choppy human wave list, I'd do power blobs+demolishers. As mentioned, a hellhound wouldn't be amiss. I'm thinking something like...

CCS 3x melta (for the nobs/BW)

PCS 3x melta (for the BWs)
2 PISs with power weapons, 1 commissar with power weapon (for the boys)

PCS 3x flamers, meltabombs (for the boys)
2 PISs with power weapons, 1 commissar with power weapon (for the boys)

Hellhound

Demolisher with hull heavy flamer (or lascannon if he brings lots of trukks)
Demolisher with hull heavy flamer (likewise)

1000 points (unless my math with the demolishers is off, I dont' have a codex with me at the moment)

Lots of splatcannons, plenty of stuff for dealing with trukks and light vehicles. If you want to do infantry+armored against orks, I'd do it like this.

I said that because I'm not convinced of power blobbing versus... what is basically another power blob. Though if you look up, I did suggest blobbing up and that would neuter the best part of a mob.
