Just out of curiosity. The farseers of the eldar, are they any good at CC? the books and what not never mention them in any sort of CC.

I think they're all right at close combat in the fluff, having access to all kinds of nasty alien goodies (I'm thinking witch blades?. They've might also have been a warrior at some point and even if not they'd need to be able to defend themselves. I personally don't play Eldar though, so if you mean are they allright at CC in the game you probably should have posted this in tactics.

I would say they were pretty good, considering their wealth in experiance and whatever spells they have contributing to their swords id take an educated guess and say they were.

You gotta remember that the eldar take many paths in their lifetimes.
It is very reasonable to expect a Farseer to have been an aspect warrior.
The Warlock entry also specifically says that a warlock was a warrior with gear bestowed upon them by their temple exarch.

I reckon you would be right tot say that the eldar farseers are probably the one person a battle field you wouldn't want to come face to face with.
I was just wondering as to the stories and books that include the eldar. I just finished the Dawn of war omnibus and there is lots of eldar fluff, but to be honest the farseer seems slightly frail and never really gets into a fight. Only once does she clasp her hands on a SM captains head and almost kills him.
The farseers and warlocks in that particular book seem like monks almost. Which is a little disappointing. I always ;pictured the farseers to be individuals having the ability to see the future and be on the battle field in either CC or leadership roles.
The book "path of the warrior" also says little of the farseers and makes the lot seem like a group of old leaders who argue amongst themselves. Only the autarch is impressive as he is portrayed as being faster than the normal aspect warriors and their exarchs and as such more deadly.
Maybe i should just stick with my own view on them. I just dont get why they are always written as being bit meh...
Im a big fan if i havent made that too obvious already.

Warlocks are specifically former Aspect warriors that have gone on to develop USEFUL battlefield abilities. Their gear is kept in a special place in the last shrine they practiced as a warrior.
Farseers are the exarchs of the Witch path. They were all warlocks at one stage, yet have lost the ability to disassociate themself from their role. They tend to see future threads and try not to be in the wrong place.
They will probably have some physical combat skills, and a majik whacky stick (that was once a force weapon as good as a Grey Knight one), but they are nowhere near as good as an aspect exarch (they can't be, as they left their aspect before becoming trapped on THAT path).

I love to picture a guardsman charging the Farseer then but it just turns its head and looks it in the eye and does some jedi mind trick then the guardsman bolts in the opposite direction ranting about the end of the world and other crazy things. So it wouldn't matter if they were good in cc anyway no ones got the balls to charge them.
But if they did get into cc a Farseer would turn it into an art more than a fight just with fluid movements and awesomeness.

My thoughts
I suspect if said guardsman charged a farseer it might go a bit like this
1. guardsman with a blood curdling battle roar hurtles toward the eldar in an "unstoppable charge"
2. farseer turns and looks at the valiant hero of the emperor
3. farseer speaks a single phrase
4. guardsman's head explodes like a grapefruit
In my opinion if a farseer gets into hand to hand combat
1. every one in his warband has failed ( he is a guiding force in an eldar army not a front-line combat monster )
2.they are is serious doo doo ( if his psychic powers cant stop whoever is attacking him )
His combat powers would be fair but to be honest he is supposed to rely on his psychic ability's rather than his physical prowess also most farseers are supposed to be impossibly old (even by eldar standards )
