i would normally take a ccs with 4 plas/ melta, but i took a primaris instead due to points shortage. he will join a vet squad. was thinking of two vendettas instead of the banewolves, but i dont think they would lend anything. any thoughts?

A bit vanilla. But no doubt will be able to do what it needs on the table. Any specific reason on the Bane wolf selection? Would have though that standard Hellhounds or Devil dogs would have been more suitable ( Bane wolves being probably one of the most under performing variants you can field ). Personally I wouldn't field so many veterans. 1-2 maximum like you have fielded but the other troops being a platoon with 2-3 squads and maybe a heavy weapons team. More troops and a hell of a lot cheaper than buying more chimeras.

i see a lot of meq, and marines fear banewolfs, or at least have to spend time dealing with them. also, i would rather have all of my troops wrapped up in tin cans, so that this way, my opponent's anti infantry weapons are useless until he deals with my chimeras. plus i have all the chimeras, so money isnt a factor

on a side note, i was thinking of maybe dropping a manticore and giving all of my vets demo charges and melta bombs. i would then have 40 pts left over. if i did that, id probably have the vets all take shotguns and just go real in your face aggressive with them. just food for thought.

I think you would be better off with Vendettas. Sure banewolfs are built to be anit-MEQ, but any intelligent SM player can easily avoid them and take them out before they even get to fire their chem cannon. Vendettas are not only transports but are relatively good anti-tank and have the range of their LCs to boot. If you took that then you would probably be able to add your plasma HQ in a left over chimera from the 2 vet squads going into the Vendettas.

2 Manticores might be pushing it. I mean yeah, their rockets are awesome! But on a chimera hull they are basically doomed if they take a side shot. I think you would be better off if you dropped the Plasma Sponsons on the one Russ and changed one Manticore to another Russ. Of course you would give both of these their Hull LCs. If you really wanted to keep the Str 10 templates you could also consider making both Russes, Demolishers w/hull LC assuming you can squeeze 10pts out from somewhere, which you probably can. Now two of those would be nasty to deal with. Just drive them around every turn and blow up anything stupid enough to show itself.

I like everything but the banewolfs. I know where you were going with them, what with you having only melta vets and manticores. The problem, though, is that they're your ONLY credible source of anti-MEq, which means that they are going to be GONE well before they reach their tiny 12" threat range. Furthermore, marine players can mitigate the damage by combat squadding or spreading out. I really wouldn't rely on these guys alone to handle power armor.

It would be a change, but I'd suggest turning the manticores into something more anti-meq (like basilisks - they still give you tank-busting power), and turn the banewolfs into hellhounds (which picks up the anti-horde slack, and are actually still reasonable against marines).

Hmm yes I agree. Switching out the BW for HH is good for versatility or vendettas for more long range support. plus the vendettas could allow some vets to be somewhere else much faster

you know, i always forget how good basilisks are. they definitely are great anti meq and i dont know why i didnt consider them at first.

how bout this. i have demo charges on all the vets, so some nice pie plate/ melta bomb there, and i get my ccs to join in on the fun. a couple vendettas will help out with their lascannons and when my chimeras pop, they can ferry some vets around. i think i have the horde covered with all the template/ pie plate action, and between the meltas, basilisks, and airplanes, i should have decent anti tank. i might have problems with land raiders where a manticore would be sorely missed, but i think this is pretty strong for 1500.

also, shotguns vs laguns? i think i should go all shotguns given that they are demo spec.

only thing lasguns do better is being more than 12" away and fire orders but thats moot right now
