I'm thinking of starting a Tyranids list, wondering what you guys thought of this list before I pick anything up:

HQ:
Hive Tyrant 195
Old Adversary
Leech Essence
Psychic Scream

Tyranid Prime 80
Spinefists

Elites:
Hive Guard 150
3 Guards

Zoanthrope Brood 180
3 Zoanthrope

Troops:
Tervigon 180
Scything talons
Catalyst

Tyranid Warrior x3 Brood 115
Barbed Strangler
Deathspitters x2

Genestealer Brood 170
10 Genestealers
Toxin

Genstealer Brood 170
10 Genestealers
Toxin

Termagant Brood 50
10 Gants

Heavy Support:
Trygon 210
Adrenal Sacks

I have AT in the Zoanthropes and the Hive Guard, and plenty of troops for objectives, etc. (especially when the Tervigon start spitting out squads) Also general big monster attacky-ness is covered by the Trygon and Hive Tyrant. Not sure about the warrior section of this list, but I figure with deathspitters firing at the Prime's BS of 4 will allow them to kill their fair share from a distance while everything else charges up.

3 warriors will get nuked real fast. Not sure what you could do about changing the unit though.

boost the gant squad so it isnt such an easy KP...gants near a tervigon can be insane...I was so happy the other day when mine killed a wraithlord.

Granted...the wraithlord isnt that great...but seeing him charge in with his T8 and expecting to own poison gants with counterattack...made my day.

The prime is not needed when the warriors go too.

Yeah, I'd ditch the prime and the warriors, and double if not treble the Tgant squad, adding another unit of hiveguard or some zoanthropes with the points freed up.

Ok. Try #2, also since warriors are pretty much the only thing I already have, any advice/posts on converting them to Hive Guard? I've never worked with greestuff before but I'm up for a try if it saves me 80-some odd $.

Paroxysm and Leech Essence will generally go further for Tyrant abilities. Psychic scream sort of sucks for an attack. Nobody fails leadership anymore, and if they are one of the select few that does you'll probably mop them up in assault anyway. Leech essence is usually good for giving back a wound per turn if necessary. Also you need some Tyrant Guards if you're not using wings. Nobody really bothers to shoot anything except lascannons, melta weapons or other AP 1/2 stupid high Str stuff against a Tyrant so being able to take a cover save is a real bonus.

Zoanthropes need a Mycetic Spore. 18" range on the lance, and everyone knows what Zoeys do. Walking they will never kill a vehicle because they'll never survive.

I personally find walking Zoeys more game changing overall than spoded kamikazis

Game changing in that they let your opponent kill them from range and never get near vehicles that can all move 12 inches a turn to stay away from them, yes.

All Zoanthropes are kamikazes because everybody knows what they can do.
